Something you Rotax Max Superkarters might want to think about in the near future is the tyres for your class. The CAMS rules at the moment say Dunlop SL6, Maxxis HG3, MG AZ Red and MOJO D2. The Maxxis HG3 is no more. Mojo M2 has been replaced by another tyre and only about 10 sets of M2 left at IKD. If IWT is right, the Dunlop SL6 is out of stock, maybe Luke can confirm this, which only leaves you with 1 tyre.
There are some good choises out there. For the budget racer, there is a tyre called the Maxxis HG1. Has a durometre reading of 62 where the HG3 was 60 and about $135.00 per set. Then I guess an open class tyre would go ok on them as well. We have some guys who like the MG Yellow at AASA events. I know Hoosier have some 5 inch tyres being tested by the AKA which fit into the SL tyre range so they should be good as well.
So the question is do you want your tyre choise to be "Tyres open must be 5 inch" or do you want to list them again so it has to be changed in a few years time?
It doesnt worry me 1 way or the other. We need sensible discussion about this not BS.

now he must have been screaming around the turns back then.

If I put 5kg of weight over a wheel, then pull 3G into a corner in the direction of that weight, would that weight now subject 15kg of additional force on that tyre?
A 125GB is at 180kgs, 250 Twin is at 215kgs, corner weight at say 3G would make a very noticable difference to what the tyre needs to sustain.
So would issues be subject to arise because of increased weights or improved mechancial grip?

Think about the duration at which these loads need to be held for.....Long sweeping corners = High G's for long time.
Who is to say the Dunlop DCS will or won't do it?
There should be no solution or guessing until you can understand the problem with data and facts.
Maybe by running the "narrow" wheels we limit the risk.....who knows?

Would you have any contacts in Bridgestone Kart Factory who will listen to the problem?
I was hoping the Australian Distributer for Bridgestone Kart Tires would have done that for us. Obviosly they know better.

In 2006 I had a FLAT TYRE at PI in the last heat which was caused by similar problems.

Solid 6's around Mallala with 5" wide bridgestones?
That's a pretty big call LOCO.
Good Luck with your testing, after last weekend it appears that the bar has been raised

It's always either Brian or Warren keeping us honest or showing us how slow we really are.
I remember that weekend well, Brian nearly won 2 National titles (250Int and 125GB) in one day if he didn't run off the track in one of the 250Int heats.....appprently he was day dreaming when it happened. I think Vivian promised herself never to push and prepare him in 2 caterogies over 1 race weekend ever again......it's more than double work...beleive me!
I was "Piss n Broke" that weekend.

Let's see now...... Stockman/Honda 10 years in a row, only 3 drivers share in that, I was not racing for Brian back then, Brian didn't win so it must only leave Wazza.
On ya Wazza!

Just a quick note (i don't want to start this tyre debate again) - Martin Hines did do some tyre testing here with the 6 inch rims in '86.

Where is the best place to get 6 inch tyres from?
Thanx Charlie
Hi Charlie, the vic website has suppliers in the links section I believe.
Dunlop = Les May (Dunlop supplier)
Bridgestone = Purchase over the phone from a kartshop that has an account at DPE and you can collect them from me. (I work at the supplier).
To everyone out there, I cannot sell you new tyres but I can collect once payed for through a kartshop and take them to the track for you if I am going to the meeting you are going to.
Regards Scott
