About 1 hour ago, as title suggests, push button start for Stock Honda is here at less than US$650 plus delivery for complete kit including light weight battery and billet battery mounting cradle.
All information being sent to me now to understand every aspect of design so that its understood if any engine performance gain is possible before discussion so that it may be submitted as part of our rules if agreed.
I've been hassled for a Stock Honda starter from many people for a long time now, so we have the choice if we want to make this an option into our rules.

Re: Push button start for Stock Honda
The concept is good, I've spoken to the designer of this and there is no engine performance advantage possible, so this will now make the Stock Honda "the" complete entry level gearbox karting solution at the lowest possible cost and maintenance available on the brand new market.
The discussion should also be around an option fitment, not a must have fitment to the Stock Honda rules.
Re: Push button start for Stock Honda
I think its a great idea Sam if you want feedback.
Not for me though, I just make weight as it is.
Re: Push button start for Stock Honda
An option that would only help the class grow as well.
Re: Push button start for Stock Honda
Put me down too. I'm in for a group buy...
Lets just fit the buggers now and let the rule catch up next year!!!
Just curious to see how much clearance there is around the seat, shifter linkage, fuel pump, engine mount, chassis rails etc etc. I'm sure it's fine. Unfortunately that video is careful not to give to much away.

Damn it, another reason to drink 10 less beers a week! I'm already 4kg over.
Complete kit with battery / brackets / wiring etc is a shipping weight is 2.7kgs, so assume around 2.5kgs of actual kit.
Now don't forget you can throw away your current battery and battery mounting that you are using for your logger/rain light and feed off these off your new starter motor battery instead. So maybe around +2kgs to your current configuration. ;)

Hope this gets off the ground.

Can't see why not after all it's our class, it shows a lot of merit and convenience at the track, if people want it included as an option, then we dictate what we want for our rules.
Re: Push button start for Stock Honda
Re: Push button start for Stock Honda
exactly what a Stock Honda needs and I think they won't be able to make them fast enough. If you want to start the ball rolling with a submission, I will put it to the NSA for you straight away if you like.
Re: Push button start for Stock Honda
I will work on the wording over the weekend as there is a group of 7 guys racing Stock Honda at Winton.
I would suggest the wording to be along the lines at this stage that only the "Hegar CR125 starter kit" can be used, battery is open, just so that no one gets any future ideas about making their own starter that secretly doubles as a HP advantage....like a "push to pass" type concept.
Once we have something nutted out, it will be passed along for all to chew over.
Re: Push button start for Stock Honda
looks like you might have to rethink the SZR Stock Honda fuel pump bracket as well.

Re: Push button start for Stock Honda
It's still the weekend in USA.
I'm ordering 5x starters tomorrow.....all but one is already sold.
Re: Push button start for Stock Honda
Revision 1 had some troubles which created some drag on the crankshaft under full load and never made it into production sales.
Revision 2 is the only starter available and the design is now proven and will not change, no drag on motor, no reliability issues.

I track tested Revision 2 for myself in terms of reliability and it already has over 200 starts on my Stock Honda motor thus far. I started my motor at least 40 times just yesterday alone at Eastern Creek (had a ball teasing PIL and Stewie over it).
The other test was for any performance loss/gain. I drag raced Dalton the full length of Eastern Creek straight (SIDE BY SIDE without slimstream) countless times on the weekend and were were exactly matched, he didn't have the starter fitted and I did. All those present can vouch for this.
In conclusion, I will be writing the proposal wording for the Stock Honda rules modification to accept the Hegar4 Starter motor as an option to those wanting to have this fitted to their kart and submit this to NSA this week.
I am also placing an initial order of 5x starters today even before the rules are modified to accept, that's how confident the NSW guys are on this. All the Stock Honda guys in NSW and VIC have mentioned they have no issue with this option concept and are all for it.
Price for starter kit from me will be US$630 + delivery fron USA, I'm guessing at this stage it will equate to around AU$750 complete kit with super light weight battery, professional battery brackets, loom, professional push button switch, everything you need to complete the job.
Anyone interested, better let me know as 3 are already accounted for.

Sam, exactly what a Stock Honda needs and I think they won't be able to make them fast enough.

Your right Ashley, the demand in the USA has meant they are behind in current orders. I have 5 units shipping this Friday with another 5 units placed on reserve when next available.
I hope to receive the first 5 units before I head off to Phillip Island State Title. Because I have made a bulk buy of 10 units, I can confirm that my price will be AU$720 each in your hands. That's pretty good since the price everybody pays US$650 + exchange rate + shipping, your basically getting free shipping to Australia, hassle free, local sale for AU$720.00.
Remember this is a complete kit with nothing else required. Complete Starter unit, Battery, Battery Charger, Starter Loom, Push button, Hegar4 racing decal.
I've never needed a push starter, always able to start the kart myself, however once you try you can never go back, it's so awesome I'm leaving my unit on. Pin your name to one of these starter units on order while the going is good, you won't regret it. ;)

They are here, 6x starter motors for CR125 just arrived.
These are the Rev2 version with last week's factory updates to the roller pin material and retaining spring, things learned from Eastern Creek testing and testing aboard.
All 6x starter motors now accounted for except one, so that means first in can have it right now.
I also have stock of all starter spares right here in case of any warranty claim for any kits that are purchased from me. Inside the kit you get;
(i) Starter Motor assembly prepared and ready to bolt onto cases with mounting brackets and bolts.
(ii) Drive cup and nut with Loctite
(iii) Wiring loom with professional start button and bracket
(iv) Professional "no weight" 135CCA battery with professional CNC battery mounting kit on the chassis rail or flat area.
(v) battery charger
(vi) instructions and Hegar decals
You need nothing else to complete installation and go "TAG" Stock Honda racing.
This kit is US$650 + delivery to Australia, however in stock right here in Sydney with my support and service at just AU$700. (Australian Dollars)
I am also looking into the fitment requirements for installation onto a CR250 engine once I get someone's CR250 kart in my hands to play with. ;)

Re: Push button start for Stock Honda
Re: Push button start for Stock Honda
Re: Push button start for Stock Honda
I (like my club) don't have ANY problems with a starter motor being fitted to Stock Honda,
ONCE THE BULLETIN has been issued by CAMS with the date of implementation.
It's a great idea. But at THIS MOMENT it's still NOT ALLOWED.
However, the Stock Honda rules also need to amend this bit in the original rules. Item 30?
"The mounting of any push button switch within the kart will result in race meeting disqualification."
So let's get it right first go eh?
Peace out brothers. ;D
Re: Push button start for Stock Honda
The push button switch rule was written to stop using it as a manual ignition cut "quickshifter"...... It was not perceived that someone would make a starter motor.
I understand the AMRC have approved the starter motor so its just waiting for a bulletin to be published..... It's done mate, get over it.
This type of attitude even after the AMRC has approved the starter is not what needs to be portrayed if you want the NSW guys to attend Winton. I'm really getting sick of it all as are many others..... Then let's see who steps up after key people are driven away.
Re: Push button start for Stock Honda
I'm the one that wants the rules, correct and in place so people like us don't have to deal with rule shitfights.
Which STOPS people from having a go.
If you can't see the bigger picture in this...........................
One line needs to be removed from the rules simples.
Now who needs to get over it?
And never mind Winton, we're a step ahead of you already.
Try and keep up.
Re: Push button start for Stock Honda
All Hegar Starter motors supplied by me will be provided with the spring loaded return toggle switch as pictured so your kart remains within the Stock Honda regulations.

Re: Push button start for Stock Honda
Hopefully, this will encourage more people to join the sport we love so much :-*
PS - is it now HOLD to pass, not PUSH to pass :D
Re: Push button start for Stock Honda
After I give them all my information, data, access to look anytime at my settings, this is just some of the crap I have to put up with behind my back.
Maybe my competitors should aspire to try can compete at my level instead of trying to drag me down to their levels.
Anyway, those with starters can flick the switch anytime they need a start now. ;)
Re: Push button start for Stock Honda
Didn't you know......that switch is connected to the 2nd map for my reprogrammed ignition box
I also have something to confess... I have a small lever that advances my timing located down next to the flywheel. It pokes through the flywheel cover. I unclip it and put it in my pocket before I get into Parc Ferme. ::)
Bring on Winton! Sprint plastics will be on my kart ;)
Re: Push button start for Stock Honda
Now, the challenge has been issued - All those Stock Honda drivers who want to kick Sam's rear end, go to Winton and give it a shot ;D
Gosh, there could be a Conspiracy mounting here - a freight train of Stock Hondas holding Sam out on every corner :o
Hey Sam, what about a real challenge - how about you starting from the back for the first race ???
I wonder if Sports Bet will be covering this one :-\
