Hi
I'm looking for a little guidence.
Just getting back into karting after being away 15 years.
Now have a son starting in Midgets we, have a nice litle CRG Piccolo and Comer SW80.
I'm interested in finding out about the general thoughts on clutch maintenance for these engines. The manual talks about replacing them but gives no other guide to looking after them.
I'm also interested any other thoughts or advice on running these things i.e fuel/oil, general gearing for eastern creek, Newcastle, Lithgow and Orange, Spare parts to carry. Carbie.
Also the motor is stock at the moment and have no intention of blueprinting it yet. Will let the little fellow get used to driving before we do that.
Thank you for such a great informative website.

Go make yourself known to the Midget Dad's at any of those venues and Im sure you will get all the help you need - I found them to be a great bunch of guys and very helpful
Hi Steve,
I would clean the clutch ever 5-10 hrs just with brake cleaner and regrease the bearing. It's not that important.
Carbie kit also around the same, they seem to last longer, not like the Walbros..
Gearing:
Lithgow 12/80, Eastern Creek 12/72, Newcastle 12/76, No sure on Orange.
Fuel to oil 20/1 is OK, We run 18/1. The SW80 can carbon up quickly so I decarbon the head very 5-6 hrs to stay over CC's.
Leave the blue print until the boy does some laps.
Carbie tune around 1 1/4 Low, 1/2 High. with head temp around 220 Deg C.
Hope this helps.
Kind Regards
Dennis
Thank you so much Dennis.
We've had only a little time on track for the last few months.
We were at Eastern Creek wednesday night and buggered if I could get the thing firing properly.
This gives me and excellent starting point.
Had him in newcastle a couple of weeks ago and thought I was on top of it.
Again thank you
Kind regards
Steve

Hi Steve,
Yep that was me earlier in the year. Hope to see you soon at the track.
Chris is going great. We will be moving to Rookies in a few months so the learning curve continues.
Look out for the SW80's on the market everyone ;)
Regards Dennis

"Look out for the SW80's on the market everyone ;)"
Let me know if they are not snapped up locally Dennis - I could use a quick one down this way
(might need to borrow Chris for a day or 3 though :-) )
Ernie
Thanks for the advice Dennis.
Took the Liam out to Eastern Creek sunday and things started to come together.
I've have to invest in a new sproket but overall for his experience he went ok.
I'm hoping to spend more time getting him up to speed.
I've let him down a bit by not getting him to the track for practice due to work commitments.
In actual fact it was a great day out there, only a few people and plenty of friendly advice.
The weather was very nice as well.
Probably the best time I've spent at a track in years.
Thank again Mate
Steve
