Less fluctuation in tyre pressures, normally lighter, stiffer and as dear as poison hahaha
so would you say that they do have an advantage in races, as the tyre can 'stay on' longer?
Definately an advantage but how much i really dont know. It depends on the class. In j's for example not a lot of difference but in sticky tyre classes they are basically needed.
How much are you guys paying for a set???
i dunnoo..will decide that at the time.
Do different brands matter for mag rims?
Magnesium rims are better for longer races . Aluminium rims can be better for shorter races . ( Not all the time depends on the class & the tyre ) , Aluminium rims will help the tyre come up to a working pressure quicker but will tend to go off . Magnesium rims may take slightly longer to come up to that working pressure but will maintain it for longer giving you more consistent lap times which is what you need to win races . And yes magnesium is more expensive , they are also lighter in weight and is a softer material . Magnesium rims work better with a softer compound of tyre rather than aluminium rims will work better with a harder compound tyre . You can also put nitrogen in your tyres instead of air & this will also help maintain that ultimate tyre working pressure for longer .
Hey Guys we are looking into importing some Mag Rims, what sort of Dollars are you willing to spend???

what price range are they in?
is that a set of 4???
i am just about to list 4 sets of mg reds unused , still in plastic for $180 a set if anyone is intertested.
We can get Mag Wheels for approx 350-450 plus gst, depending on the amount that we coiuld pre order, maybe we do cheaper

Life savers ... Put them on in hot weather and you'll go like a bullet.
magnesiums are the only thing i run (unless its raining). great in cold or hot conditions for clubby. tyre pressure is consistant over a whole race, but you need to be quite vigourous with the warm up laps. and the tyre surface is always nice, not overheating in areas. and very light, which is good as its a rotating mass, which needs to be as light as possible to help the engine rev out freely.
but yes they are VERY EXPENSIVE. around the $500 mark for douglas mag';s i think.
if you want genuine OTK (tonykart) magnesium rims, sell your sibling's because they are nearing the $900 mark for the MXC rims
I've got a set of NEW unused silver Edwards Magnesium Rim if someone wants them.
