Just wondering as i have a strong series 3 04 engine that I think has been, but considering upgrading to get a total freshen up. Also is there much of a chance an 09 could be slower out of the box than my current 04 engine.

Hi Mick
Got hold of a 09 engine couple of months ago ! sold an 06 & 08 model both were very good engines but the biggest issue is that by the end of 2010 you will need to replace the current barrel with an 09 spec one... I try to turn over my engines evey 2yrs just to avoid costly bottom end rebuilds, clutches, exhausts etc....As to blueprinting ....I have not blueprinted the 09 engine and I am very happy with the performance out of the box ! Could an 09 be slower than your 04... I would say there is a possibility but unlikely...if it is run in poorly probably the only reason....
It all depends on how much racing & practice you are currently & going to be doing over the next 12mths to decide to upgade or not .... if you can afford it buy an 09 now and compare against your strong 04 maybe long term your 04 will be your Sunday motor !! only you'll know the answer......but Rotax parts are now grossly expensive so as I mention avoid costly replacements or your budget will blow out quickly...
Thanks for the words of wisdom steve, you make a lot of sense... wanna buy my 04?!! lol
Im sure the price Im willing to pay would be way under what you could get from a newbie to the sport.....all the best !

Backed to back a 09 & 07 that we had spent some time on
The 09 was "out of the box" not much difference in lap times
The 09 seemed (data plot overlay) a little stronger mid range the 07 looked a bit stronger top end so maybe a gearing variation or possibly try a different base gasket on the 09
Not much we are allowed to do with the 09 so it should bring consistency a little tighter
So its back to Racecraft - the better you drive/setup the better your results
Mate you go on about these classes being expensive, lets talk about your inexpensive F100 class.
3x MOTORS(if your serious freshened every couple of races)
2 jet and 3 jet carburetors
MG yellows (last one meet)
open wets (super soft ,pray for really wet conditions)
limited track time and on it goes, so if your got to preach so hard to recruit numbers it must be really popular "NOT"

mojo's last more than one meeting.. i got 2 days of testing then a race meeting out of my mojos and was still competitive to guys with brand new tires, had a friend who was testing in melbourne one day he and other rotax drivers were on old tires 2 or 3 meetings old he decided to put new ones on n went no quicker.. so shows they last more than one meeting
You never give it a rest do you jiani. To say you sound like a broken record would be an understatement of such extreme proportions that it would only serve to insult the intelligence of the people reading this forum. Not that this would be an issue for you however as you would need some intelligence to insult in the first place.
I'm not even sure why the moderators allow you to come in and hijack any thread that mentions rotax. But personally I've had a gutful.

Dont worry about it Josh, Freedom of speech is a great thing, credibility, well most of this forums members have it, some do not.

Josh, the moderators won't edit people's opinions simply because they don't sit well with others, that's not in the spirit of Kartbook.
What I will say, however, is that in my experience the best way to deal with trolls is to IGNORE them at ALL TIMES. Never respond in any way, whatsoever, and you'll find they get bored.
That said - Jiani, are you aware that all your posts make you come off as a complete tool? Your constant pro-F100 commentary is boorish, childish, and annoying. If your sole reason for coming to Kartbook is to annoy people and belittle them, we will look at updating the site guidelines to include something more general about trolling, and if you choose to ignore that update, we will remove your account.
If you want to discuss Formula 100, by all means do so with people that want to have the conversation. If all you want to do is belittle people that choose to race Rotax... well, go away! You're certainly not doing the F100 class any favours with your behaviour!
Jiani needs to race F100. That is the only way he can get to beat a Slow Leopard. He thinks power = fast.
It simply means going fast slowly.
Terry Sheedy
its possible but unlikely, best thing would be to take both on the track and compare
Well said Col.... Jiani hope that you take this advice onboard as I am sure that you have positive things to say and add regarding karting in general....
