Thanks Ashley for printing the overall results Lakeside Nov 11 on the forum here.
This is the personal view from the seat of #17 at Lakeside.
Yes 10kg overweight for this event, caused by circumstances beyond my control.
Working on reducing body fluid before next weekend at Morgan Park or I'll be "all shook up".
Track was reported "SLOW" by other classes after previous days rain and drizzle Sun morning.
Entrants 250 twin Inters -
#1 Jason Smith - Anderson Maverick/DEA,
#20 Carlo Chermaz - SKE PVP EVO II,
#27 Lee Swindell - PVP SK,
#79 Steve Cloke - Stockman MR2/Honda.
Entrants 250 single Nationals -
#17 Phil Webb - Anderson Maverick/Viper Honda. (Spider Racing)
#37 Paul Gregory - PFP Raider/Honda (Spider Racing)
#51 Bernard Weir - Anderson Maverick/Gas Gas
Entrants 125cc and 85cc
#23 Tim Philp - Avoig Elise/Honda 125cc
#75 Lindsay Jamison - Stockman MR2/Honda 125cc
#99 Grant Yarrow- Cougar evo 1/Honda 125cc
#26 Stewart Bell - Gladiator/Yamaha 85cc
Plus Rotax Max class.
Qualifying 10 Minutes, (4) four 6 lap races.
For PIL - NO animals were injured at this event, except maybe human ego's and damaged equipment.
Apologies if I missed some news or G/B drivers experiences.
There was one unnamed G/B kart driver that mowed the grass 3 times or more. :o
With the exception of #27 Lee Swindell DNF R3 & R4 All Inters finished every race.
All Nationals finished every race, except R4 #37 Paul decided not start, not to risk the engine leaking G/B oil.
125 G/B including 85cc #26 Stewart Bell who lunched the 85cc engine iin qualfying, out for the day.
#75 Lindsay Jamison drove well to take out the 125cc, with #23 Tim Philp, #99 Grant Yarrow.
Qualifying was spoilt by a red flag, a number of karts off the track, 6 miinutes later restarted.
I was coming to grips, getting the feel in #17, finding the limits of the new Hoosier tyres used for the first time.
I'm not having a go at the Rotax drivers, but in qualifying a group were "in a world of their own" racing 2 or 3 abrest making it difficult to pass, at one stage I came up the outside of them going into Hungry, but cut me off and I was not taking risks, later passing them on the straight just to greet the checkered flag. NO quick time.
Race 1. 1st #1, 2nd #20, 3rd #27, 4th #37, 5th #79, 6th #51, 7th #17, 8th #23, 9th #75. #99 DNF. #26 DNS.
This race was also red flagged and restarted, a number of Rotax's making contact, off at 1st corner. 2 Rotax DNF.
Paul Gregory #37 drove exceptionally well to finish 4th overall, 1st National. Best lap time 57.2356
2nd National - #51 Bernie Weir best lap time 57.3395. 3rd Phil Webb best lap time 58.3288.
Myself an OK start then chasing #51 Bernie who was getting used to the kart and Gas Gas power, I was looking for a chance to pass him early in the race as he was holding me up until he became accustomed to the kart and then he took off with the power of the Gas Gas to play with the Inters for the rest of the day's racing.
I avoided a spinning Grant #99 at hungry, overdriving on the day.
At least my lap times were good breaking my personal best, and I finished ahead of #23 & #75.
By the way I previously raced karts with Bernie Weir in the late 1980's (1988, 1989, 1990) until I moved to NSW.
Race 2. 1st #1, 2nd #20, 3rd #27, 4th #79, 5th #51, 6th #37, 7th #75, 8th #17, 9th #23, 10th #99.
Nationals - 5th Bernie Weir 55.5674, 6th #37 Paul Gegory 57.3180, 8th #17 Phil Webb 58.3288.
My view R2, OK start again, concerned about a missfire, short period cutting out. Jetting issue.
Close racing with #23, #75 & #99. Lindsay Jamison #75 just managed to pass me before the finish.
I'm sure I didn't make it easy for Lindsay, (DON'T BACK OFF) and Tim Philp finished just behind me.
Race 3. 1st #1, 2nd #20, 3rd #79, 4th #51, 5th #75, 6th #37, 7th #17, 8th #99. DNF #23 & #27.
#23 reported as using old engine parts. #27 unknown engine? problem.
Nationals - 4th #51 Bernie Weir 56.5168, 6th #37 Paul Gregory 57.3180, 7th #17 Phil Webb 59.2758.
My view, Lindsay Jamison had a good start, finished 4th. Paul was slowing a bit, eased off in the last 2 laps and I almost passed him, I finished less than 2 seconds behind Paul. Grant Yarrow finished just after me, both of us doing similar lap times.
Bernie was 4th with the Gas Gas, way ahead of us all #75, #37, #99.
Race 4. 1st #1, 2nd #20, 3rd #79, 4th #51, 5th #75, 6th #17. DNF #99 & 27.
Nationals - 4th Bernie Weir 56.9661, 6th #17 Phil Webb 59.8349.
My view, Paul #37 Honda engine had developeed a gearbox oil leak, so decided not to start R4. He didn't want to risk further damage to the engine required next week for Morgan Park.
The race was red flagged when a Rotax hiit a wall hard.
I offered Paul my #17 kart to drive in the last Race 4, but he wanted me to drive to finish the day's racing at Lakeside, which most likely will be my last race at Lakeside, finish off with the race meeting at Morgan Park next weekend 17th.18th Nov.
I drove to finish the last race behind #75, Lindsay doing fastest time 58.8422, though I was still doing lap times 59.8349 when #99 Grant fell off the circuit and #23 Tim also did not start with engine problems.
To be continued .... with photos of the grid girls and Spider Racing team.
Taken by Ashley "the boots" learning to drive my phone/camera.

Re: VIEW FROM THE #17 SEAT 10kg OVERWEIGHT PILOT.
Sponsors - RACETECH, SUGARLESS CONFECTIONARY and I beleive SUPERKARTAUS. COM too.
Ashley mentioned a "pensioner" broke previous personal best lap times by 2 seconds with the new Hooser tyres.
Everyone looked at me for some reason - am I the only pensioner ::)
Myself and Paul were advised it was close, there were very few points between us at the end of the day.
1st National presentation to Bernie Weir #51 Gas Gas
A breif speech by Bernie in part said he was "buggered" after the days events, not having raced in a long while.
How did I shape up after the day, also "BUGGERED" after getting up at 5am to drive the truck to the circuit.
2nd National presentation went to Paul Gregory #37 Honda.
Paul thanked the sponsors, club and myself for the drive of my kart.
Actually I have to thank Paul who takes time off from his business to help myself with jobs I used to be able to do, such as lifting a kart, undoing tight bolts etc... I have muscle depreciation = old age.
Paul also does the maintenance on #37 kart he drives, I do my bit when capable.
3rd National presentation to myself #17. (third equals last of 3 karts) I thought I drove well on the day.
I thanked the club and sponsors, and thanked all the gearbox driversfor clean and fast racing without anyone exchanging paint (to my knowledge) or making contact with another kart.
(Sorry Rotax guys but at times the Rotax class was like a demolition derby) Class back to school! :-[
I said this Lakeside race meeting is most likely my last race here at this circuit,
only Morgan Park next weekend 17/18th Nov. to end the year and maybe my driving.
I'm considering selling both karts, spares and wheels/tyres, even the transporter Isuzu truck with rear hoist.
Until the karts are sold either Paul or both of us may drive next year, or I'll offer a National drive to a young guy.
I'm not intending to do a Skaffe and return racing.
NOW for what you have been patiently waiting for, the GRID GIRLS.

Re: VIEW FROM THE #17 SEAT 10kg OVERWEIGHT PILOT.
In my Viper Tuned CR I was doing 54's in first outing in that kart with EGT at 550deg and gearing that could have dropped a tooth on the rear using DDS rubber.
53's would be a good lap in a decent tuned single.
The GasGas I would imagine would be lapping around at 51's.
Great to see Bernie back out there !
Thanks for the detailed report Phil !!
Re: VIEW FROM THE #17 SEAT 10kg OVERWEIGHT PILOT.
As a relative newbie to the Ass puckering fun that is Gearbox Superkarts , I had a great day and a S*#T load of fun all year ,
How did I go ????.... (small pause) ….. well I was on the track only when I was crossing it , I now have chiropractic included in my health cover extras, and I may have stood on the side of the road more than I would have liked … BUT.... I have met some great people that I now call friends and have learnt so much ….. And isn’t that what it’s all about .
I would also like to extend my thanks to everyone involved in putting it all together not only for the day but for the year as a whole , Ash, Roger, Don, Cameron the whole crew you know who you are …. Also a big thanks to our sometimes forgotten friend upstairs in the commentary box Mark , Mate you do a great job of talking even the not so great of us up. ;)
Thankyou also to the sponsors that supply us with the dust catchers every meet (which I did manage to get a few) , and the ever popular Grid Girls.
So that’s all I have to say ….. Other than… “doesn’t matter how good you do , It matters how good you look doing it”….. And that’s about my year in a nutshell .
See you all next year to do it all again ;D ;D ;D

Great report Phil..................you after a new job in club ;).

Thanks Cameron, but I'm sure others could do this.
My research drivers, kart details, lap times I hope are all correct to the last timing digit.
Appologies if I made any error, or missed some news.
Maybe I'll see you at Morgan Park? or definitly annual presentation night.
Phil
Re: VIEW FROM THE #17 SEAT 10kg OVERWEIGHT PILOT.
Hey Phil, so the GasGas was faster than some Inters there. What was your personal opinion of your Hondas competitiveness compared to it? Looks like it was over a second faster than the next best National, engine or driver??
[/quote]
Bernie's best time in the Gas Gas was 55.5674, yeah, that's about 2 seconds faster than our Nationals.
Don't forget Bernie has not raced for many years, so he did well to gain the finishing positions he did.
As I said in the first race I attempted to pass Burnie, until he had the hang of it, outpowered us on the straight and my Viper/Honda I would hope is as good as they come HP wise on the dyno.
The Gas Gas definitly has more power, higher speed, but that was to be expected.

The Qld club is very friendly, NSW follows as being always friendly to me when racing there.
Even though racing against members, I am friendly to all competitors,
especially at Morgan Park Sat night there has been some great social BBQs.
You are always welcome as a friend to me, lucky I had extra oil for you,
members do look after each other, helping out with parts, welding etc... to keep all karts racing.
No problems avoiding your spin at Hungry right in front of me, just weary you may have come back across the track.
Actually your speed through the corner seemed equal to my speed, you must have just entered a tad faster.
Your friend, Phil
Re: VIEW FROM THE #17 SEAT 10kg OVERWEIGHT PILOT.
Lakeside always gets a good crowd and the whole place is buzzing all day. Good exposure for the series sponsors that we have to thank very much, RaceTech Motorsport and Sugarless Confectionary.
2013 sees new series sponsors and a 6 round Championship all at Lakeside. Dates are R1 Saturday February 23, R2 Sunday April 7, R3 Sunday May 5, R4 Saturday and Sunday June 8 - 9, R5 Sunday September 8, R6 Saturday December 7. Due to the popularity of these events, there will be a pre entry system released soon. Any left over spots, and there wont be many, will be offered to everyone.
We have 2 slots at each event, Gearbox in 1 and Rotax and 85cc in the other. 24 per grid per slot each event.
I have to say Phil, in a couple of races you were going good. Even your race report was good reading. You were first in again to have photos with the Grid Girls. Good to see you are not slowing down.
Re: VIEW FROM THE #17 SEAT 10kg OVERWEIGHT PILOT.
Yeah, I should have spent more time researching Jason's lap record times.
Jason Smith's previous lap record you quoted 50.76, congratulations now down to 50.6580.
I had the time whilst recovering the body so wrote "My view" Hope you all enjoyed it.
I try to add an element of human interest
even the "boots photo" may interest someone, what the grid girls wear or Pauls race boots,
or just have a laugh. All the 4 grid girls photos you took on my phone came out well, nice and clear. Thanks.
Paul is doing a full engine rebuild on the #37 kart to be ready for the weekend,
I've been chasing parts with Paul also buying a crank kit, new crank, bearings seals etc..
I've had to repair #17 radiator, the top plate with light broke off, it didn't leak fluid,
it was dragging behind, but whilst in the pits for a red flag race 4. Graig Philp pulled it off for me.
See you at Morgan Park. Phil
