about the J Pro weight 130kg, that's to light for some of the older more heavier drivers, think about it, nearly all the somebodies are all 15 and 16 in thier last year of juniors without them the quality of the racing isn't that good

dont add a new discusion just reply to mine:) so who are these experienced 15-16 yo drivers? sean? wouldnt be one of them drivers that finish down the bak. the one that drives a crg? hes slow. dw bout him. he can burn around at the back if he wants.
Matt,
maybe we should offer J light only....and junior performance...... There were guys carrying a fair bit of lead too....which can be just as difficult for set up as carrying an extra 5 kg.
15 & 16 year old quality drivers in supercheap series. hmmm. Lets see, Brooke Topp, Jayden Coop, Sam lumsden & James Foster (when they run it).. Ony one of them are heavy drivers? and i never heard a comlaint from him.
Well said Sean. The weights as they are in my opinon have been pushed to high.Gradually the weights are being raised which is not a good example for younger children in the sport. Raising weights again is not a smart option.

Have a look at the J heavy grid for the QLD closed titles last week, See who is running at class weight without ballast & also see who entered the SC this year. See who entered both and look at how they fared in the two events at 130 & 140 KG.
It's not a dig at the excellent series run by John & SC just a heads up from the heavier end of town ;-) No simple solution offered just a desire to see as many kids as possible given the opportunity to run in the series, particularly given that there will be 3 rounds up in our neck of the woods in 2010.
Venues haven't yet been confirmed but they will be bascked up with data from the past series which do support increased rounds into the north. You are correct however the challenge is to get the weights rights and I don't reckon John's formula was to far from the mark this time round. I suspect that Junior Performance will be the class of choice for many in the not to distant future and based on some numbers I have seen from our STO recently parity won't be real hard to achieve.
But gee wasn't it the best series.

@ DRK we were happy with the Pro Jnr National class. We understood the need to keep the Series to 7 classes and that consolidation was necessary. Like Gavin, I don't reckon John's formula was to far from the mark this time round.

"based on some numbers I have seen from our STO recently parity won't be real hard to achieve."
I liked some of his other comments about weights though. Some of those things in Juniors would be like racing road rollers.

We didn't enter the series this year because at the start of the series we were running 10kg of lead to make 120 in JNL. Now we are down to 3kg (or 7 at one track we go to lol) we are really looking forward to next years Supercheap Series. I can understand some of the heavies wanting more weight in the J Pro but look at it from the other side. How many lights couldn't enter because the class was to heavy. I think 130kg is a good weight as usually you see kids weighting up to heavies when the reach about 127kg.
Everyone we talk to has told us it was a terrific series. Well done to John and the other organizers, sponsors, officials and volunteers that followed the series around.

As an aside, the issue here with a 15..16 year old ( particularly in the bush ) is that in the not too distant future they may have to leave town for 4+ years to go to uni so ponying up a significant bit of cash to move from J's is not a popular option if the kart may be largely unused in the not too distant future. I realise that others mileage may vary on this but it is a significant issue for a not insignificant percentage of the karting community.

This was discussed elsewhere previously but is there any benefit in using a restrictor to achieve parity between light and heavy?
Having said this, is there a benefit in making the series inclusive or is the intent to limit the field to an elite group of drivers ( no sarcasm intended, a genuine open question )
I have got about 20kg of lead on my kart. hard to get it sorted but you can. and im sure mat you were only a couple of tenths off. If we ran it only at J heavy you would flog us all. and if we ran light and heavy it would be to many classes and split the fields.Bolt on a clubman or something and run Junior peformance at a higher weight.
