Many thanks for the Sunday 23rd racing at SMP and putting up with us Queenslanders.
My job was to be the Spider Racing Team "test driver", setting up the new carby and other mods, since I last drove it.
At first in Qualifying I ran it with the carby set up as supplied by Ian at Viper, it was fine starting in the pits, but on the track rain or not it would only rev up to 9,000rpm, spluttering as it was far too rich with a 420 main jet, had too much fuel. Sorry Ian.
We changed the main jetting leaner to a 380 Mikuni jet ready for race 1.
Then Ant and I decided to change to slicks as we heard there was a drying line.
I finished first changing tyres headed to the marshalling area, but the karts had already left and I was refused by the marshalls to join at the back of the field. So I lit up the the tyres wheel spinning back to our pit.
Ant and I were not impressed as there was no 2nd call to the marshalling area, so we both missed race 1.
Race 2 & 3 I was testing jetting and other set up with the slicks.
Race 4 I had the best set up, in dry conditions with slicks raced off the start trying to pass as many as I could on the first lap, but took the wrong inside line into turn 2 passing karts and found the grass on the inside, I could have raced straight back on, but I didn't wish to visit the stewards, so I let the field I had passed go past and I joined at the rear of the field.
I must be too much a gentleman! Ha Ha Ha ! :D But I was just the "test driver". ;D
Then it started raining and I had so much fun, understeering, power oversteer, I like the rain it's so much an equaliser. I had more fun than, as they say I could have in bed, kept on the black stuff.
I had done my job as "test driver", setting the kart up for Paul or Justin to drive later.
I know you read our forum Ian, so many, Thanks Ian for the TMX carby, when set up right it ran like a jet, with low EGT's 380 up to 550 with the 380 main jet.
I can't see me using any jet you supplied over 400, and I will check a box of jets to see if I have a 370 at least.
Again thanks to the NSW S/Kart club for your welcome to us, we could return soon.

Re: Eastern Creek and that new SMP
Interested to hear that you were still overjetted at 380. Of course rain or a high moisture content robs the air of oxygen and you need to jet down.
However, every engine and every carb is slightly different, so if the piston and sparkplug confirm that you require smaller mainjets then that's the way to go.
Just confirm that the EGT sensor is 150mm from the piston face if it's closer (say) 100mm then you might expect to see a maximum of 550-600
I'm sending you 340-370 to try and I am always interested in feedback from you guys using Avgas.
Well done.
Best Regards
Ian :)
Re: Eastern Creek and that new SMP
The rain and moisture would affect the main jetting as you say.
I tried the number 2 ignition setting and jet changes,
Like I wrote, by the last race 4, it ran best with a 380 main, back to number 1 setting on the ignition switch
the EGT's were still low in temp.
Thanks for sending me the jets, I will catch up with you next order with payment.
I appreciate your offer to give them to me.
Justin, my son hopes to drive my kart next Lakeside event, not until sept. I'm told,
but he will get some practice days in at QR Ipswich and Lakeside on his AASA license.
