Hey,
Anyone else think that some of the fines that they have are kinda stupid?
GKCV fined Rob Munnerly $100 because he didnt wear a high vis vest when he went out to put a plug in Phils kart. Some of the fines that are issued are just stupid. At ballarat last year they were fining people for taking two hands off the wheel.
Anyone else think this is stupid?

Read your rule book Brad - two hands off the wheel is a big no-no!
But unless they're going to enforce the rule everytime it happens (like when people cross the line, celebrating) - it's just a grab for cash. And claims it's all about "safety" is an insult to our intelligence.
Just like the banning of onboard cameras - because they're a safety issue - but if the camera is used for "promotional purposes", whatever they may be, the safety issue goes out the window.
That's rich! tell me another one......
I don't have any dramas with fines or penalties being imposed. We all know (or should know) the rules.
Perhaps $100 is a bit steep for Rob's infringement but their was another incident where a karter did the wrong thing twice and only got $20 fine! General opinion was that he should have been excluded.
Consistency is what is required accross all stewards/hearings.
I don't really know the situation on the weekend so I can't comment. What I will say is that I can see why people end up annoyed with fines for what can be seen as petty offences, while things like contact of karts, bad starts etc. aren't enforced (and penalised) to the level they should be. I know it isn't always the case and that officials etc. are doing their best (and they should be commended for volunteering their time), but sometimes it seems like trivial offences are penalised while major ones go unnoticed.
Clubman Heavy by any chance?
I really felt sorry for the poor bloke taken out on the roll-rounds with a fair bit of damage to the right hand side of his Kart just because he was in the way of someone attempting using the cut through.
Does anyone else think that the cut throughs can be bloody dangerous - I saw a few near misses of people trying to fight their way back through at the weekend on the roll-rounds but it seems to go unpunished so........why wouldnt you?

Brad if you thought Todd rd was bad, you would pass out if you were at Port Macquarie last year for the NSW State champs..!!
But seriously what does a high vis vest do in the middle of the day at a kart track. The drivers eye level in a kart is very low so you would think it would be better for them to wear high vis pants if its safety its about. I mean I know that it is about insurance and all that but a $100 fine is way too steep.
i understand that the hi-vis vests are for safety, but sometimes having to get the hi-vis vest on is the difference between starting a race or not..
what i mean is that ur driver is stopped and u need to change a plug and push them off again, you can either get straight out there and get your driver going again and then face a fine.. or stuff around trying to get ur hi-vis vest on then go out there, and by the time you get out there the race is started, which is bit unfair as they've done the right thing by getting the vest on but still miss out on the chance to race which is wrong.
It all boils down to OH&S if the kart club does not enforce or demonstrate any form of Duty of Care then they are liable if anything occurs, some people can be told fifty times before they're fined and then believe that the club is picking on them.
It happens everywhere in every sport or club, The word Commonsense is a word that cannot be used anymore because what is commonsense to you can be interpreted differently by someone else. Its just what they have to do, would'nt it have been easier and cheaper to put the Vis-Vest on, they only cost a couple of dollars each, or why not keep one handy or take notice as to where they are located on the grid......commonsense really.
I think a warning would be a little nicer and more sensible than giving them an on the spot fine
Vis-Vests are really important and a pet hate of mine when people don't wear them. They should be made part of the scrutineering check. I don't have a problem with the fines but competitors should be able to gain credit if they report officials not wearing them either. This seems to be happening more often of late.
Dont forget the little miners light on the forehead. :)
But seriously why not just say any pit crew that wants to enter the out grid must have HIVIS on so if they have to enter the track its there and on already. Then again as the driver why not tell or make your pit crew wear one who cares what it looks like.
