Okay, so Wall-E's "rookie mistakes" thread has been good value, so I thought I'd ask about the weird, random, or totally unbelievable stuff you've seen while karting.
My contribution is from up in Bundaberg, and Scott Douglas got hit from behind in Leopard Light, causing some damage to the rear crash bar, exhaust etc.
When we were looking at the kart after the race, Scotty noticed that one of his exhaust cradle springs was gone... The exhaust was still held firmly in place though, because the other one was now attached from one corner of the cradle, to the diagonally opposite corner! The kart that crashed into him had popped the spring off and reattached it to the other side of the cradle.
It wouldn't happen again in a million tries.
What have you seen?

came in from a session in the j, got back to the pits and started to change sprocket and stuff. While unscrewing the sparkplug i noticed there was a 1 dollar coin sitting in one of the fins on the motor. i thought it was a massive fluke hahaha still dont know how it got there
Well on a clubday ages ago my nose cone fell off down the other end of the track. so my plan was to push it back to the out grid stop put it back on and go again. so next lap i came around and lined it up a ran into it. It wasnt till i got to the end of the straight that i released it wasnt touching the ground......i did the session and came in to find it had gone back into the bars and the one clip that was still there had clamped down freaky as lol.
2003 junior sprint at pucka, hobarts mitchel evans started towards the front of the pack.
from what i heard he was spun around at the start, and was collected by a few karts on the way through.
they dragged the kart back to the pits on the trolley to inspect the damage. a tyre had been knocked off the bead, so they took it off to replace it. they realised it had a rattle in it. no idea what it was, they took the tyre off the rim and there was a stray bolt inside the tyre.
somehow while he was spinning, the tyre fell off the bead, and captured a bolt inside.
No one believes this
But i came in once because i had a sticking throttle. Checked the Carby and there was a frog jammed in the Butterfly. AHHAHAHAH!!!!! i couldnot believe it, how the hell did it get there?
Rae fothergill went out for his race in tag 100 at rockhampton the kart got out of the grid gate and stopped so they put it back on the stand and tryed to get it going in the end there was a frog in the air box quite covered in fuel and dead.
A mate had the starter on his leopard fail.Or so we thought. He was out of grid 2. So while he was in the kart I went to push him out of the way so the grid could go on the track. While moving him, I noticed the kart didn't roll easy. It felt notchy like a clubman. So after the grid cleared, I pushed him of like he was in a clubbie. The leopard started, he rejoined in his grid spot, & raced. On further inspection, the clutch had a failed part, & it jamed up making the clutch inactive.
Not everyday you see someone push start a tag.....
A couple of years back I was running in one of my clubmans, whilst out on the track I felt something cold go down the back of my neck, I s#!t myself thinking a big bug or bee or something had gone down the back of my neck, I didnt feel anything else so I just kept putting around. At the end of the session when I put the kart on the trolley I noticed the right rear wheel was loose, I then undid my suit and found it was actually the keyway that had gone down the back of my neck.
True story!
hahahaha thats good as, saved you a few bucks ;)

Port Macqaurie yesterday
Just before a raffle for a radio control car
Young midget Zac Stocks from manning valley kart club ran up & gave his ice block to his mum & said hold this i going to win a remote control car.
You wouldn't believe it 1 min later his name was drawn out.
found an exhaust flex in my sidepod one day after a race at oakliegh, still don't no how it got there
We also passed a Datsun 120y on our way up to Coffs Harbour for the Yamaha challenge last weekend towing a caravan at least 16-18ft long & yes it was defiantly a Dato 120y.Gus was watching a movie on his laptop with ear phones on & i actually slowed back down so he could have a look.
If only i had a camera
havent been karting very long, so i havent seen any strange things.
but on the last PSC meeting at Eastern Creek, when i was doing the roll arounds and race i noticed ALOT of rubber flying around in one of the heats. when i came in i had 8 long rubber strands wrapped around the accelerator cable casing. all 8 pieces formed loops. 3 were bonded together(almost made the audi symbol). was quite strange...
and while we are mentioning snakes, when i was testing the FBMW in sepang south circuit, i saw a snake wriggling down the back straight. at the end of my 10 lap stint it was still going down the back straight. funny as.
off topic, when i was going down to uni one day, i saw a guy towing a immaculate silver torana with a f250. we went down a massive hill(cataract creek hill-wollongong for those who might know it), the trailer went epically sideways(like a proper drift) and almost 90degrees. as the f250 went up the hill it all straightened back up and he kept going. then down mount ousley the same thing happened, and the trailer was sideways for a good few metres be4 recovering. crazy to watch.
