Okay here we go with another rule, one hole on the air box on a J must be covered, otherwise it is deemed allegal, but 2 holes on a S is compliant, so if you put race tape over the 2nd hole and it comes of in a race you are DSQ for a non compliant airbox go kart, so why doesn;t the manufacture that makes these makes one with one hole for a jay, so how can the AKA have a rule here when you can't buy a AKA legal airbox for a J, you must modify the airbox to suit, now in the rules it says you cannot modify the air box, so I'm confused, and don't say plug the hole because that is modifying the airbox, so come on mr allen you seem to know all the rules, work this one out for me ????????????????

`Where did you get this rule from, Have never seen it and have been reading the rule book for 23 years
25.24.1(m) Air tubes may be partly or completely blocked at the entrance hole only, and the
restriction component must be easily removed for inspection
Â
No mention of a one hole requirement for a J!
Brett - please supply the rule number to which you are referring
There are a lot of engine specific rules no longer in the rule book (unfortunatly) - so you have to download them from the AKA web site.
Â
But as in your other post (rear bumpers) please refer to the rule book - then you can argue the point with whoever told you this rubbish !
At least 5 of us read the Rule Book !!!
Â
Have you read it correctly?
We have an air box suitable for both J and clubman. No different on the outside, only difference is the air filter inside, yet we all had to buy a new airbox to be compliant? Has any one ever been checked to see if their air box had a filter? No, they were a waste of money when if we needed air filters we could have just fitted them to the existing air box. another rought in our sport. This is also tru for the leopard class. You must run the square airbox in leopard but can you fit the filter element to this airbox and still be leagal??Neville Scullion said:

Come on Neville,
Not everything is a so called wrought and the AKA admin has actually done lots that are good for the sport.
Sure it affected those already in the sport and yes, you could argue most of us had the football airbox anyway
BUT
If you are going to mandate an article, it has to be recognisable and traceable.
So it is registered ! One air box - one registration for all bitumen M.R.J classes and Senior J and S (no two!!)
If the air filter had been made optional and perceived even to be a poofteenth slower then no one would run it.
If it is or isn’t .....who cares ! we all have run it.
Just like the muffler for both J and Clubman. Sure both could have been done better in both the research and testing but for the newcomer it is absolutely a plus.
Prior to these controls (and remember we are talking entry classes) how many variants of airbox did you have for clubby (we had the main three)
Then for both the J and particularly the S we had the mufflers then the silencers
We used the powermac here then the Rapp there then there were the variants of both which were “necessary” to go fast.
The only ones complaining were those who had already invested and saw it as a wasted investment.
NEWSFLASH..... it’s called evolution.
Hell – we should all go back to lawn mower and chain saw engines  if that is the reasoning
You won’t find one newcomer (I believe) that would complain because they have only one muffler and one air box to buy and the air filter is an absolute bonus for the new guy who has frequent offs !
Not a wrought me thinks, but some forward thinking that reduces costs and that has to be a win for the new karter
We tried to introduce a control chassis  back in ’03 for Midgets to make it more affordable and easier – but that was deemed to be just too radical the manufacturer prohibitive (unfortunately)

Thats the problem I can't Find the rule for the J, But have been told that one hole must be blocked, for what reason I don;t know, and yes I ran a air filter in my X30, Performance didn't affect it, but boy its saves trashing the motor, I fitted a S/J one, you just stuff it behind the flutes with a 10mm allen key, no one ever checked and there isn't a rule here either saying you can;t run one, I also ran one in my RL Leopard
You will find it far easier to tune the J at low revs with one hole blocked, so maybe "one hole must be blocked" to get you engine to perform best but not for the rules. as was stated eairlier, one hole is allowed to be blocked according to the rule book.brett north said:

Exactly as David has mentioned. When you have been running a clubman for a while, and for a change, bolt the old J on, when you get pushed out the gate, the thing dies. You have to choke it to keep it going - for about 2 laps until the engine heats up.
Â
Then you remember, forgot to plug one hole. Marvelous what a difference that makes.
Â
The answer is, yes, you really do need to plug one hole for a J.
Â
No, it is not compulsory - just works better if you do.

Terry Sheedy
Brett,
You can't find the rule 'cause it's not there mate.
Tell the expert who told you about the rule to toddle of, get the rule book and show you where it is.
Terry,
The prize is yours!
It's not a rule in the manual to cover one hole but you cover one hole to make a "J" go better  "as a rule"  (-:
Â
The only rule that exists that you must block one hole of the AKA noise induction silencer is the one your "friend" invented...................!! No such rule exists in the AKA Manual...
Â
Next ......!!
