Hi there!!
First of all, thanks for maintaining a space like this where everyone can share and learn something.
I'm from Portugal, I do karting as a hobby, on a small budget, don't have nothing fancy, just a good old PCR Jaguar 2000 with a CRG 100cc DD engine with own made Senna '87 livery. I only have a couple of hours in it. But I am not yet comfortable with driving it to the limit...
I've been reading and youtubing for countless hours, downloaded a dozen manuals from chassis makers... I understand the basics like toe, ackerman (my kart doesn't have this, I think), caster. But I'm a little bit confused, sometimes it understeers badly into the corner, sometimes it oversteers out of the corner. I know the most important thing is to change something and go out and test it! It's exactly what I'm trying to do here... Haven't change anything on kart setup since bought.
I go out with a bunch of guys who been doing this for 15 years, they are great and help me a lot, but they'r not great help when coming to fine tune kart's behavior. I know I'm still learning, but knowing more theory will help me getting comfortable/ happy with the kart setup.
Important Data. I think:
- Track: KIB, Braga, Portugal
- Driver's weight: 64kg
- Kart height front: lowest setting
- Kart height rear: lowest setting
- Rear shaft: 40mm hollow, no idea on stiffness
- 3rd bearing shaft: tied up with cable ties only
- Seat: chassis support + 3 extra: 1 on engine (witch broke last time I went out) and 2 on the other side
- Also, I'm thinking of changing rear sprocket from 79 to a 75. I think kart is "over reving" on both straights. Hitting 113Km/h @ 17.500rpm, with a 75 it will do same speed @ 16.600rpm improving engine's life, I guess...
So, based on my data, what, in your opinion, you think I should try first?
I don't have expensive tools to make proper alignment, any way to go old school??
Thanks for reading!!
