As most of you know who keep up to date with the world of karting you will be well aware of the FIA's most recent report "FIA IN SAFETY" issue 2. The report is a general overview of development to improve safety in all diciplines of motorsport, including karting. And it appears that the 'high seat' is on the agenda again, also a collapsible steering column and improved body protection.
Personally speeking I don't think a high seat is the way to go, there would only be a slight amount of times were it would prevent injury. Half the time if you flip your already out of the seat and on the ground while the kart is still in the air. Not mentioning the extra cost of a high seat.
Steve Tillet is also very opposed to the idea. The link below is an email sent to Karting1 from him and his thoughts about the high seat.

Although I would like to know what you all think about these developments, especially the high seat. And if you have any other ideas that could improve safety in karting.

i can see what they are trying to do, what we all want is to make the sport as safe as possible..but i think where karting at the moment with safety is as good as i would like it, any more and it would be like racing around a pillow factory :) sure ..might sound stupid but i think it would make karting too safe and possibley like you said Andrew cause some injures!
sure karting is dangerous but hey isnt that some of the reason we get a thrill out of it?

I think we graduated from the high seat/chair at about a age of 3 or 4 .....
