hey guys,
Just after some info about horsepower in clubman engines, whats a poor horse power? average horse power for just clubdays? and really good horsepower for major events? and is horsepower a major thing to have? thanks

Jamie they are just numbers, However there are good engines and average ones but a good setup will always make an average one be good! I know that first karts publish numbers of 16.5hp as being good? try and get an engine with good midrange hp and torque and you will be in good stead on most tracks. good luck.
ok sweet thanks, so what does make a good engine? is it midrang and torque? what makes Hane Pipers engines so good, or the engins that say Matty wall has from and J&A??
Well many engines peak quite high, ie 16.5 or more. But the thing that matters is how long the horspower is in that range. So what im trying to say is. An engine that peaks at 16 for a lot of the rev range might actually perform better than an engine that peaks high but drops off. See the best motors would obviously peak quite high and hold the power through the rev range, rather than just a straight out number. I hope this has actually made sense haha.
you wont get a decent answer from any top driver, or engine builder, about there engines.
engine HP is one thing, a good carby is another.
for example, i got my engine done by J&A, and was told its as good as wally's or sera's, when face it- i know its not.
but its still a good motor. diff between our motors will be how the carby is done, and torque. top drivers will have a good powerband, and mid-range torque.
to answer your hp question. 16.5hp is ok. 17hp+ is where its at!
lower than 15, and i'd be worried.
You can get a dyno to read whatever it wants. The only decent reading you can get is yours compared to others on that exact same dyno.
You want a motor that gets to its power quickly, and holds it for a long time. Max HP isn't always the best.
Josh Walker said:HP doesnt do **** you want torque. Torque is what moves the kart Hp is just a function of torque and RPM
Josh, could you please repost your comment without swearing in it? :)
Cheers. Fongy
sorry bout that i was just saying that torque is the important figure that they should be looking at.
Our clubman motors are built by Piper and Dyno by First Karts NSW and they are all around the same HP and Torque but the run in time is different. This is how we know what motor is better. The quick the run in time the quick it makes its HP and Torque levels.
Make sure the dyno read out is at race temp so you know what it is going to be doing at the end of the race not at the start.
I have seen one engine builders dyno readouts at 17.5 to 18hp but these are always done at cold temp runs. good motor at the start of the race for 2 to 3 laps but once they get to race temp they start to go backwards.
