A simple question with a no doubt complicated answer.
What do you, the Karters, want to see at this meeting? I know you want lots of classes, lots of racing, and all done by lunchtime :-)
Seriously - what would bring you out and put a smile on your face? It's the chance for the guys and gals starting out in karting to have a crack at a big meeting. Do you want it to be a two day format, with qualifying, heats and an all important long final?
Bring on your wish list!

Two day format with Qualifying and a long final!!!!
When and where???
I'm not a C & D grader BUT knowing why a lot of them haven't upgraded, a one day SUNDAY meeting with qualifying, 2 short heats, prefinal and full length final I would say. This would allow the more serious one's to practice saturday if they want....... Another option could be, decent amount of practice (fair few hours allocated) and qualifying one day, and all races the next, to not disadvantage too much the guys that can only make one day similar to southern stars series?
Taking a different approach you could really promote race time VS practice time with 3 short heats of same distance, and 2 finals (ie CIK)? Over two days of course!!
Just ideas :)
Not a deadmans final.
For me the best situation would be preparation for a state/national titles.
I dont imagine there will be as many classes as an normal club/open meet so there should be no problem with time.
Qualifying/1-2 heats first day, remaining heats and final last day.
I guess it depends on who the event is aimed at? C&D graders that are content to stay where they are and have a good social meet. Or for drivers wanting to progress and get some experience of what to expect at a larger meet.
Either way Ill be there, might as well make the most of my lisence restrictions!
I accept Keishi's point but I believe that if it is to be a title meet then 2 days is necessary along with the commitment to attend, make it an "Event", not just a club meeting with visitors.
Keep it as close as practicable to a major meet format to give people a feel for what they will run across later at a major titles meet, particularly qualifying and long final.
One exception is Ashleys suggestion re a points based comp, give people the opportunity to mess up without blowing the entire meet.
Also allow some practice on day one prior to qualifying to help people find a setup if they are new to the track and have travelled.
The black plate was a good incentive to get more serious.
yea deadmans final is never good. at last years c&d grade titles, the fella that had won the heats and prefinal end up not winning overall due to a wet final and as many are only just starting out most didnt have wet tyres etc. so in that situation i believe an overall points for the meeting is more appropriate.
I guess you could go the points way with exactly the same. Qual, heats and final. 2 days and make an event out of it.
A good point about avoiding the deadmans final - it's frustrating to have your race weekend ruined by one result if you have been working hard all the way through.
So far the format for Southern Star 2011 has worked - qual & heat 1 on saturday, heat 2, prefinal and final on Sunday. Perhaps we should rename them, just heats 1 thru 4 ?
Interesting and valid points, Korey. There are pro's & cons for both sides. (I did say the answer would be complicated)
What track is it at this year. For me a two day event with qualifying 3-4 heats long final with no deadmans and please no rain showers (hahaha) TAG/R/H
AKAQld will make a decision in due course which track will hold it. Toowoomba has put its hand up to hold it, and we are aiming for October.
So two identical finals run on aggregate and best position in second final in case of tie :) Not all points count, but not final only counts either..... It's different I know, but CIK use two finals regularly......
