Was going to head to the track today (Friday), to run in an engine before our local meeting this weekend. Went to get the key off of the treasurer and pay the practice fee, and have been told that in order to be at the track we need 2 AKA Officials to be present. Surely this cannot be correct? This would basically outlaw being able to practice?

Never heard that one before. We were practicing at Todd Road only a week or two back with no-one else present, no problems at all...
I had someone come up say something similar at Warwick a few weeks ago.
I believe its required to have somebody [ maybe 2] people present [ not sure f they have to be AKA officials but club members] who are not part of the practice, for safety reasons you will need to confirm through your club as it appears some are acting with varying policies.  Failure could see insurance coverage negated, again confirm through your club.
I understand having someone out there as a precautionary measure, but I just didnt understand having to have AKA officials thats all. Just thought maybe I was missing something haha, but I will seek out some more info.
Hi Nick,
Â
There maybe a misunderstanding there, it would neaar impossible to have a AKA official available at any weeked to attend a single kart priactice, I suspect a CLUB member though having to be there.
Yeah that makes sense to me Paul, thanks for your input everyone
This is entirely a Club matter. Many people tend to be confused when it comes to AKA/Club affairs. Your Club is a separate legal entity & is entirely in control of it's own affairs. It comes under the AKA umbrella when it holds AKA approved race meetings or "official Kart activities" & in these cases AKA Insurance will apply (Chapter 3).
So if you wish to run a motor in or practice your Club sets the requirements for your doing so on it's track. It would be prudent for Clubs to have their own Public Liability and Personal Accident Insurance because I am not convinced the AKA Insurance under Chapter 3 of the Rules covers the Club in activities such as running in / practice on a non-race weekend.
Anyone know the answer to the insurance question?
Richard,

I m pretty sure you are covered by insurance, I believe NSW to be sure of this requires a practice permit covering all weekends, this is issued on the clubs request and the its where I believe the 1 or 2 person requirement comes in, it provides security for the driver[s] and the property and ensures all rules are followed ie NO jnrs on track at same time or driving dad's unrestricted Rotax or gearbox kart etc [ which would negate insurance if something hapened]. If your track is privately owned by someone else it would be upto tht track what the go is and if he allows he would have the appropriate coverage. not sure what other states do, but I suspect none would allow unaccompanied practice.
The day that happens, half of the karters in VIC will quit!!!
Paul,
Unaccompanied practice is happening at Todd Rd
See Col's post above.
As has been said already if the club has an "organised" practice day then AKA insurance will cover but if it's just a "bit of track time" then the club's arrangements take precedence. However the manual stipulates how practice is to be run on an AKA track and as AKA licence holders we all subject ourselves to those regulations. It is the club's responsibility as owners of an AKA "licenced" track to comply with the regulations and ensure those that use the track do also.
To not do so would put the club's standing with AKA in jepordy and leave the club open to action on the grounds of negligence and breach of duty of care.
...and all I want to do is drive my ruddy go kart!! richard gagie said:
