Only 25 have entered for Round 1 of the 2013 CIK Superkart Championship.
Seems the cost of these new generation twins and/or exclusion of the Rotax style FPE engine (like Laker's FPE engine) could have started to make an impact to the sport.
It was only 3 years ago they were rejecting entries greater than 60 after filling grid density.

At the end of the day, in 2009 I had to hope to get in at Round 2 Assen because grid density from Round 1 get preference over the Round 2 blow ins :D, not this year that's for sure.
All I can say is if I had $20,000 plus engine kit, to simply cross the English channel for Round 1 of a new championship should not be a deterrent if you are chasing the CIK title. For starters, with entry fee over 400 euro per round, nothing else included, not to mention the cost of the fuel and a set of tyres each time you roll onto the track, it does make things tough for the cash strapped.
Re: 2013 CIK European Superkart Championship
Most of the guys that i saw in europe seem pretty well financed so i would think there is somthing other than just the cost of maintaining an engine involved in the numbers being low.
Just my thoughts though.
When do entries close for the first round of the CIK/FIA champs?

Closed on 20th June......25 entrants at round 1, that's all.
Dougie,
You would have seen that most competitors at CIK rounds have 2 if not 3 engines on hand.......at 20K each, that starts to add up and makes a big difference between the "haves" and "have nots".
Re: 2013 CIK European Superkart Championship
The entry to the British Kart GP is free for European Race entrants, so it's not an either/or choice for the Brits.
Of the 25 entrants for the CIK Championship Races 13 are Brits, so only 12 travelling from the rest of Europe, which I find disgusting, but perhaps understandable. The sad news is that the "travelling Brits" are propping up the various European organisations, whilst ignoring their own (although again I understand why - more prestigious tracks, 3-day meetings, etc.).
I suppose the most telling figure is that for the same event (CIK European and British Kart GP) at the same circuit (Snetterton) in 2012 was an entry of 37 of which 13 were Brits. So the quantity of overseas competitors (24) has halved, whereas the Brit entry has been maintained.
It's not just engine costs although they do play a very large part. Not only have you lost the Rotax competitors, but quite a few who had bought new engines and kept their Rotax and Rotax replacement motors for a spare. They have now had to invest again or call it a day or race at more economical events.
6 sets of slicks a meeting hasn't helped either. OK the importers are selling more per competitor, but I'd rather see them selling 3 sets to 50 competitors than 6 to 25.
In the earlier European/French races they are allowing non-CIK homologated kit to run.
It doesn't take a genius to work it out.
Travel costs including Ferries and the price diesel has rocketed as well.
The CIK takes a fixed and not insubstantial "fee" from the event organiser for granting them the "honour" of running a CIK/FIA European Championship event. With reduced entry numbers the organisers are not just taking a financial risk, but committing financial suicide.
Best Regards
Ian :)

Jase Mate, I don't see King Carlo in the list, is he planning on racing Le Mans?
Good to the see entrant numbers up for this event even though the championship is almost decided between top 2-3 guys.
