According to the minutes SA moved the following motion and it was "CARRIED" -
"2. 2010 AKA Manual purchase
Moved SA
Insert into the 2010 manual in rule Chapter 2 – fees & in chapter 13 preamble.
All licence holders MUST purchase an AKA manual (see state fee)
Second: NSW
CARRIED Effective Immediately."
Under what authority was "current" inserted into the addendum ? -
"(All AKA Licence holders MUST purchase a current AKA Manual. refer State)"

Interesting point Greg, I carried lots of things..LOL
What if your just a worker that gose to the meeting to help out as a stewart "say on the gird" or a flag marshel, etc, should you have to buy a manual to know the rules?
Or only the drivers only need to buy one and know the rules?
I also think there are to many rules! For club days fun!
Cheers Greg C
The way the current AKA manual is done is inefficient. A bound book that isnt updatable is poor form in this day and age. A small a5 ring binder with pages changed as a update is issued is all that is needed.
What is the point of having a manual on line if you still have to buy a current one????????
I have also noticed another rule that has changed the wording, with out being hilighted in red to signify a rule change or had a addendems for it. It is only minor but it is still a change that has not been sanctioned.
Nivens suggestion (an A5 binder format) has a lot of merit. If we are going to be put in the position of havng to pay for a manual let's make it a reasonable sort of purchase.
Personally I would be happy to pay for a good quality A5 ringbinder, and know that I was entering into an agreement to personally download and print amendments and additions as they were made available via email notification.
Did that come out the right way? How do we (the ordinary karter) make a suggestion along these lines?
Whats the point of a rule book when anyone caught doing something wrong just gets a slap on the wrist.
But hell, should you not have a cable tie on the breather tube ..........YOU ARE DOOMED.
What about the 11 tooth midget sprocket not available in Australia ( and illegal to use)but being run by a certain team which has links to one of the most powerfull positions in our sport who inturn defends the use of it. Should he not support the rule book which he is the custodian of and not try to find loopholes for his benefit.
So the rule book is just emergency toilet paper.... I just wish it was rougher.
Johny's back!!!!
You will probably find that this way licence holders might read that the hand book rather than just taking it and throwing it away somewhere with their karting gear. Do we know what the fee will be before jumping the guns????
No disrespect to those who drafted the above motion, but the reason the AKA manual is so totally useless is that people over the years have made changes or additions, using very poor grammar and way too many assumptions.
We ALL hate reading legalspeak, but the reason it is so long and complicated is that it tries to be unambiguous.
In the above example, the word 'current' is absolutely essential!
I bought a copy of the first AKA manual ever printed. By the submitted wording, I would NEVER need to buy another manual. If, on the other hand, the motion had read:
"All licence holders must have a copy of the current AKA manual, in either hard copy or digital format"
, it would allow people the choice of either buying hard copy, or relying on the online version.
Without the word 'current', people would be able to say that they do not have to abide by any amendments or changes approved after THEIR copy of the manual was printed. This is absolutely ridiculous, but I'm sure we all know at least one racer that would try it on.
Just think how many poorly written rules there already are in the manual?
How many of these poorly written rules end up having the EXACT OPPOSITE effect to what was intended?
