He's really not that big. It's just that he's standing next to me...
So... What I said over a month ago stands true. Phil is a decent bloke who, like the rest of us, wants what's best for the sport. I'll take the man at his word. Lets give the new mob some breathing space.
Btw, Col, you and I have more in common than you might think. Nice chops! Remington trimmer? Lol.
Cheers
Wayne.
I wish the board all the best as well in their endeavors, however Mr Smith may have made a big mistake by saying they will be guided by the INDUSTRY. Let's just hope that was a faux Pas and that he and the others consider the thoughts, wants, needs and expectations of the members.
A lot of people (myself included) use the word "industry" when perhaps what me actually mean is "the entire sport and its stakeholders". I can't speak for Phil, of course, but occasionally I realise my terminology could be misconstrued.

It should not and would not take the likes of faux pas Phil to work out the finances of the AKA, just distribute a set of audited accounts to everyone as per any standing guide lines and WE will all see how finances are collected and spent throughout the sport.
Fortunately his background might deliver a fundamentally better use of funds for the organization? Peter Edgar said:
It will take a year for the new board to catch up with what is going on in the sport.. until then I am prepared to give Faux Pas Phil and his new buddies a chance to show us what they can do to repair the damage done by the old AKA Inc. Phils first job should be to audit the books of the last few years and find out where all our money went. Once the thieves have been exposed, prosecuted and banished from the sport for life... karters may regain faith in the system and decide to spend there hard earned dollars with the AKA Ltd. It will take along time for people to trust the AKA with our funds again after what we have been through the last 10 years. Neville Scullion said:

pitting with Remo? hope thats the early stages of the tyre price negotiation!
Hopefully nothing to do with his previous statement of 'listening to the industry' or has the "Industry" already extended its tentacles? First time driving a Leopard? Food for thought. David Plumb said:

Mr Edgar you are correct. Only time will tell now if the newly elected board are the right people for the job. The execution, application and diligence to the nominated position will be scrutinized by the members. Based on their performance and allegiances will see them stay or be removed. Dave... I believe Phil has been a customer of Remos for quite a while and according to Remo has the best intentions to " keep the bastards honest ". Â
Nev... hopefully Phil will abide by the rules and make the figures available to the public... instead of keeping them secret from us as the old mob did... even though they to were bound by the rules to do so. Â If not... Im sure he will hear from you..
Mal... good chance you are right... but we have no choice but to give them a go. Â I too suspect the new board may be " puppets " for the old regime... but what is important is that we get the new constitution up and running. If we dont like what they are doing then we will set about having them replaced with some decent folk later on.Â
You blokes are unbelievable. You're sticking the knives in BEFORE THEY'VE EVEN STARTED.
They haven't even got into a room as a board yet, and you're insinuating that there's going to be dodgy dealings, corruption, and nepotism.
Here's a suggestion. Go stand in the bathroom, look at yourself in the mirror, remove your tinfoil hat, and slap yourself in the face as hard as you can. Making comments like this about a guy (whose time is very valuable, no doubt) who has chosen to work for the karting public, for nothing, is just shameful. Seriously, it's a dog act.
You in particular, Mal, wouldn't be happy with the AKA even if they made licences free, had KZ2 at every race meeting and sold tyres for $5 bucks a set, so I don't even know why you bother with this forum.
Pete, you've claimed for years that your sole goal was to remove the "old AKA", and usher in a new era... and as soon as it happens, you're the first to give one of the new guys, a VERY skilled and experienced board member, a disrespectful nickname and a series of insinuations after he said one word that could be misconstrued in an interview which was delivered off-the-cuff, without any preparation, while he was still half-puffed after a race. What a joke.
Facts:
1. The board was selected by a professional recruiting company. We paid them a pretty serious sum of money to do that. No corporation in its right mind would select a board by popular vote! Democracy is a one way ticket to mediocrity.
2. Karting - "Technical questions, race results, anything about karts!". Politics - "ALL political discussion goes in here!!". Pretty straightforward that one. Or do you think this thread is a technical question, race result, or anything about karts?
3. "Nick Rowe looks pretty much in control of JNH at the moment."
"Dave hasn't lost his ability to drive seemingly beyond the capabilities of his kart while in traffic."
"Squirrel just won heat one of JNH by about four kilometres."
Yeah, certainly not making comments about anyone but relatives of outgoing AKA executives! You know I actually said the name "Blake Mooney" out loud today, too! The shock!!
You know Pete, for someone with absolutely nothing of validity to say, you sure talk a lot.
By the way, straight after the interview Phil Smith said he'd like to hear my thoughts on karting and what could be improved. A normal, sane person, would think that was simply because he plans to do what he said, which is listen to people in the industry... but you guys will no doubt come up with a different theory (that involves rather more tinfoil hat wearing).
I notice you're happy to repost my videos without thanking me, while firing potshots from the bleachers, too. Good job. Upstanding bloke you are.
Ps... As long as you're allowed to post on Kartbook, Kristian can too. You seem to be under the misguided impression that this is your personal soapbox.
