I just received the AKA email about this being national volunteers week. I must say, I couldn't agree more with the sentiment of the email. It's incredibly easy to pick on the officials that run our races, and point out the inconsistencies, and whinge and cry when a decision doesn't go our way, but...
Without these people, who do it for nothing more than the love of the sport, WE COULD NOT RACE! They put up with an awful lot from us, the noisy rabble, and yet continue to turn up at sparrow fart every weekend to run the show for us. We do indeed owe them a sincere thanks.
So, I propose we all REALLY do what Richard Erdmann suggested, and say thanks to an official. If you're a KartBooker that loves karting, at the next race meeting I want you to brightly, happily and HONESTLY say to the first official you see... "Hey mate, thanks!".
It's that simple. Just say thanks. They deserve it, and you'll probably find them a lot more accommodating next time you get a pink slip :-)
Add a reply below if you're going to say "thanks mate" to the race entries girl, or the grid marshall, or a lapscorer, or a canteen lady, or a flaggie, or the scales marshall, or the clerk of the course at your next race.

Right on!
must say after the final i always give a thumbs up or a wave to all the track marshalls on the in lap, and when i come in the grid ladies, and if im fortunate enough to get a trophy thank them again on the mic.
Great post Colin.
People are very fast to give officials and stewards etc a hard time.
Firstly they are voulunteers and put a lot of effort in to run anything from a clubday through to national etc.
The amount of effort some people behind the scenes put in as well is ignored by many as well.
Yer sure , they make mistakes , get frustrated like the rest of us sometimes but remember they are doing the best they can under sometimes pretty weird circumstances.
I just wish I had more time to devote myself so I have always done my best to make officials job a little easier by showing to basic things.........common courtesy and basic respect. A nod,and a smile or a handshake doesn't take much effort.
Sure big mistakes are made as well as small ones but look at how many big mistakes drivers ( and parents of drivers) make as well.
I can not agree more with Colins post here . WELL DONE for bringing up this subject.
My 2 cents
Glenn True.
what a great idea col, i will do it for sure :) now lets see how many other kart bookers will do the same.
