With a change of guard at the top is there any chance street racing could make a return .... ?
We all know the reasons behind why street racing was abandoned so I don't think we need, nor should we, go over old ground in this forum.
I remember the excitement of taking karting to the people. In my opinion it may be time for the board to look into this type of racing to see if it is viable. If approached and planned carefully (yes insurance is obviously a big hurdle), there could be some ideal marketing opportunities. On the face of it we have some talented people on the board so why not throw this on the table and see where it goes.....

The biggest problem is safety and setting up a temporary circuit. Logistically it would be a huge ask, with big dollars involved, but if there was an initial outlay by a council or some other 3rd party, conceivably it may happen. At this point in time however the idea would seem very remote, whether the board grasp it as a concept or not.
I know you don't want to go over it again Graham, but the coroners report into the last one makes it very clear what is needed to be done, and whilst its NOT impossibe to do its just NOT VIABLE TO DO. the event at Pimpama was NOT a street race strictly speaking.
Â
Take it from me I organosed and ran TWO of them its a MAMOTH job and ours was a small one in size. I ust don't see it ever happening give what is DEMANDED in safety wise I could list many things that would make it so expensive it wouldn't be viable to run given todays OH &S requirement not only by this sport but by the council that would be required to approove it.
Â
They ARE a great event but look at the Gold Coast Indy barely breaks even cannot run unless QLD gov throws millions into it same with upcoming Homebush etc etc karting is propertionally the same but saety requirements are not much diferent and thats where the costs are.
Â
I do beloeve the AKA old guard did, or were supposed to have, formed a specific committee to investigate the viability of these events, never heard a peep of what was done, I do suspect they looked and came to the conclusion that despite how good they might be publicity wise its just not viable to run.
Â
I just don't see the AKA overcoming the safety issues required for a street race which are more demanding than specific mtosport venues. And I for one would NOT put my name on ANY event permit uless ALL safety issues were covered well and truely. So it will have to be a WELL thought out proposal to get up.

And of course Mal, statements like "Of course if CAMS removed their tongues from higher paying crash fest support classes sphincters" is going to endear CAMS?

Just putting this out there... 250 Formula E around Isle of Man = awesome crazy men who you respect - where do I sign up? Can't even run Senior National Super Heavy street race in Aus = boring political over the top OH&S no fun country... Too dangerous? Don't enter. Why does our government let individuals not be responsible for their own decisions??? We are race drivers. Pilots of our own destiny. Fair enough juniors shouldn't be exposed to it... But adults should be able to be respected enough to know if something is dangerous, make a choice and not be allowed to sue anyone for their decision... I hate bubble wrapped society...
There are plenty of huge car parks in the Sydney area, im sure there would be in other states, why not hold a race there? SKUSA Style..? CIK involvement too? I wouldnt know the politics behind it, im just a day dreamer.. KZ, KF1/3, TAG, Clubman, F100..
Chris,
Â
what barriers would we use as the coroner gave clear indication that that the orange "bollard" type we seee a lot on highways IS NOT ACCEPTABLE, hay bails are NOT good, tyres maybe ok but the quantity needed is up there [ I had nearly 4000 for a 280m circuit at ours] but have concerns as well. the perect barrier woud be airfence type but thats way way expensive.
Â
Safety is a big thing but there are other hurdles that need jumping as well, there is the circuit itslef, pit area, parking competitor and spectator, then there is local council permission, then surrounding bsiness/homes permission and road closures, then there is track surface,
Â
Its NOT impossible to do but a HELL of a lot of work. but in the end how many entries would need to pay what entry fee needed to cover the huge costs. I nsurance woud not be a big issue as long as the event abides by guidlines listed via relevant authorities and the event ran according to the book it would be ok. BUT i there is anotherv incident the payout will efect all karters via increased premiums etc.

Mal,
I am not disputing your statements, just questioning the language you use to express them.
There is a time and place for saying what you want to say without resorting to profanity!
Pat
you DO NOT want to get involved in any V8 events because a] the entry fee will be too far over the top, b] if the v8 programme run s late you will have track time cut, just look at the support classes they already have, one safety car and thats the end of the race/session.
I have been out of karting for over ten years. What happened to make street race's banned? When I raced back in 2000/2001 we had a street race at Mundaring here in Western Australia. It was the event that i remember had the most excitement about it.
Nicole Franks was killed in Resa light at the Woolongong street meeting, the Coroners report was scathing about the safety of running karts on the streets.
Nicole was a pretty good driver, it would be difficult and costly to make karting safe with street meetings.

Aaron, I was there hence why I do not feel it is appropriate to bring this up again.Aaron Bingham said:
