I see i have been sent an email to vote yes or no on the Stock Honda class. Gotta say im all for it, but can i ask a questions? What are you aiming at Sam?
Is the class to be state sanctioned next year with a view to Aust Championship status in 2014 or is it aimed at having full championship status next year? Also is there any room to have provision for any current 80cc Karts, already equiped with front brakes, non-laydown to be eligable? I have and dare say it many others have old 80's sitting in sheds gathering dust that would suddenly get a second life if i could bolt a stock honda on and go racing. Eliminators, Vipers, Mac Minarellis and Swiss Hutless chassis abound and may get more bums in seats. I for one would consider it but wouldn't if i had to go get a sprint/cik chassis. Maybe i should have asked this months ago ;)

Re: Stock Honda Certification
CAMS apparently now only recognise TWO Australian Champions, one of those being the 250 Inter but I don't know the other one as ONLY the 250 Inter has ever been invited to the CAMS Champions parade at the F1 GP.
The rest as far as I'M concerned are only National Champions, just like the NGB guy's.
And PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong.
The "other" bit related to Chassis, ie CIK aproved. pretty clear to me.
But over to Sam for the Intelligent answer.

Re: Stock Honda Certification
I will post the proposal for all to see and it should answer most questions anyone should have.
I am representing the "Stock Honda Group" which consists of currently 20 names. 3 names do not own a kart right now but are 100% committed to owning one by early 2013. Currently there are 17 accounted karts on the grid for Jan 2013 of these they are 10 brand new faces into the sport of Superkarting purely due to Stock Honda and 3 guys who have retired or quit from Superkart Gearbox racing but have now returned to race Superkarts due to the simplicity, ease, parity and cost of the Stock Honda formula.
So first I want to make one thing very clear from your first paragraph, "I am not aiming at anything as an individual", the submission is from 20 drivers/members all with the same objective, all agree to the common set of rules/tech regs. This is that the Stock Honda class is a spec regulation to allow all drivers with equal equipment that is recognised by CAMS. Once it is recognised by CAMS, all the Stock Honda drivers no longer need to fight for points and trophies from the 125cc "open" gearbox class.
This means we still race in a combined "gearbox" race but are scored separately and because it is recognised by CAMS within the STR's with it's own regulations, then Stock Honda entrants can go and race for a CAMS State Title or National Title in the future.
Of course as Rolf has said, CAMS currently only recognise 1x Australian Superkart Champion and to date this is selected from the 250 International class. The group is not expecting this to change in their favor.
At the end of the day, Stock Honda spec karts are always going to be here to stay which makes the clubs stronger, remembering that 2.5 years ago there was not a single Stock Honda on the track. We just want our own awards and points now that there are currently 20 guys out there and growing by the day. Would that be too much to ask? Doing so would help boost the numbers even more for our clubs. So who would want to deny extra members/numbers to our Superkart race meetings?
Read the proposal and you will understand what the Stock Honda group are asking.

Scott,
Firstly all Stock Honda owners have brought in on the current proposed rules, no back yard karts that could be perceived an advantage and possibly not commercially available to any other competitor who may want one.
Secondly, putting a Stock Honda Engine package on one of these old frames is just pouring good money into bad. If these karts are lying in the sheds, nothing is stopping them coming out to play and enter as a 125GB 'open' just like Stock Honda's are doing today. By all means, you can bring an 80cc out with front brakes and enter as a 125GB. Let's see them on the track. ;)

Re: Stock Honda Certification
We started with 1 Stock Honda and at a very rapid rate the numbers have climbed to 20, Im one of those that Sam spoke about, I had pretty much walked away from the sport,(l can't offord a twin) Im now back in. It is fact that this class is going to bring more entrants to our clubs
Re: Stock Honda Certification
As for the Stonda's, if excepted, will they be run as an Australian Championship class at the two rounds next year or are you looking at state level going to the next level in 2014? Or is that something CAMS/NSA/SKA/AMRC or whatever abbreviation entity decrees?

Scott,
What comes first, the chicken or the egg?
First it has to be included in the Superkart Technical Regulations before Stock Honda are eligible to run for their own class Australian Championship.
History has shown that getting something into the STR's does not happen overnight. Once it's in the book, the entrants can then see what part of the 2013 season is available to them and I'm sure all eligible entrants would embrace it. After all, that's what they are seeking in the proposal, to be scored and awarded according to their Technical Regulations.
Re: Stock Honda Certification
As soon as you open things up to variables it makes it like any other GB class meaning you can get beaten by better gear rather than getting beaten by a better driver.
As far as i can see the Stock Honda group have put a heap of work and financial commitment into this class and have come up with a formula that they are happy with.
I will get one of these karts in the next year if i have my way and its only a lack of storage that is holding me back right now. I for one like the stock factor of the class, if you take that away it loses its appeal very quickly as you are not just opening up performance differences but also availability of what the other bloke has. This all would take away from the very essence the class has been formed on in my opinion.
Jase.

Jase,
I'll do a very quick sum for you. Currently 20 karts at let's say at $10,000 each, means $200,000 of Stock Honda's already sitting on our grids.
Now can someone show me growth in numbers on our grids over any other Superkart class like that?
Currently $200,000 worth of investment and it will continue to grow.
Not one person or people anywhere in our sport is bigger than anything this class has set down within it's objectives and regulations. Everything is off the shelf with various sources to choose from and can be assembled together into a Stock Honda Superkart by beginners of our sport using simple hand tools as proven many times already.
Re: Stock Honda Certification
Thanks to Wayno and all the exec for organising at such short notice....actually thanks to all the states for acting so quickly.
When this finally gets full approval, we as a group won't let you down.

Guess what, we now have 24 committed by March 2013. This thing is growing by the day.
Anybody against the idea is against 24x fellow members committed to Superkarting a Stock Honda as of today.
You watch next year, this is not hot air. ;)

Re: Stock Honda Certification
This event is only participated from those drivers who actually rate themselves and with bigger budgets. It does not include the other 2000+ Stock Honda engines in USA who actually enjoy ease, reliability and fun of this shifter engine package.

Every category starting with 'S' in the results such as S1, S2, S4, S5 are all Stock Honda spec engines. I count over 155 different Stock Honda entrants right there. Many of these actually split into 2 groups per category/weight division of Stock Honda and then have to out qualify and send each other home early. This is why this event is only attended by the "elite" and those closer to the west coast of USA.
There must be something right with this engine formula to have an attendance like that. ;)
In KZ2, our own Matt Wall finished 21st out of the total of 42 that turned up. Congrats to Matt, that is still a good effort!
