I hear of confirmation that the J is to be killed off.
I have had a couple motors up for purchase for a while now and I see others have too. It is a shame that they will not sell, and concurrently a shame that competitor numbers have dropped to such extreme lows. I think the racing in the National class is well underrated and it has also provided many of us shoestring racers with the opportunity to go racing in the first place, which other catgegories struggle to provide.
There must be a host of karters out there hanging onto what will effectively become the cliched "boat anchor" and i think it is fair to say that such a competitive class that provides such great racing doesnt deserve this. But, if the numbers aren't there then I can comprehend the financial burden the class must have become to governing bodies and local administrations alike.
I myself have not been racing for a while now with a view towards dedicating time to a uni degree, however i did fully intend to rejoin my senior J competitiors in the not-so-distant future.
If the class is dropped, is it possible to form some sort of independent J series that will allow those that have been burdened with these fairly expensive door stop's to still extract some sort of low budget enjoyment from them. Is this indeed an opportunity to create a series that is even more cost effective for those currently scratching the bottom of their racing piggy banks just to be competitive with the richer or more naturally gifted?
Opinions are highly sought.
Also, if there is such a series already in town please feel free to let me know.
Regards.

Nick,

the J wont be banned, it will just go the way of the Atlas engine, left to die a natural death, it will have a spot in clubl level racing, it will gradually be removed from national and then state and even major meetings when numbers drop, there will be a class for the engine to race with alongside the new one but the P word will determine that [ Parity = P word]. But remember the new engine WONT be slower given its brief is to be = a gun J as its starting point, no doubt engine gurus will find improovement to make a Gun J rear of field engine.
So the J will just fade away I think thats the overall plan of the governing body, and it will make the J engine a boat anchor as resale will be virtually impossible inside th sport.
Â
The future of the J will entirely depend on the parity of the new repalcement engine and given the AKA ability and history in this area I am not confident it will be succesful.
Â
and my concern is what are the NEW guys being told as they get into the sport? and when the new engine appears what is the new guy being told to buy and the costs of set-up for this newby just got $2k+ dearer = turning them away???
