Have had a few things for sale lately to help pay for my new found love "karting" you know the feeling ;)
Anyway I received a reply to an ad asking me for the price of the items i had for sale, in this case it was a bird cage and accessories. I replied with my advertised price of $99, the prospective buyer then respond with a very official email saying that she was on a ship and would like to offer $650 for the items!
$650 for a $99 item sounded great and even better she wanted to pay via paypal.
Being a paypal proposed transaction I thought it might be safe and what damage could they do. Anyway after careful thought I decide not to accept her hugely overeager offer and instead responded that she can have the item but I asked before I gave her my details did she know that she was offering $650 for a $99 product.
She never responded.
Has anyone ever been scammed in this way. Offering to pay via paypal surely must be safe for me but I am very sceptical of the whole thing. Have yet to ask paypal what would of happened but someone here might know.

Don't be stupid and get stung.
My brother in law had a motorbike for sale in the Trading Post. He received an offer way more than what he was asking for and could he provide a paypal account for payment. Sensing a scam, he replied with a fake paypal account number. He didn't even have a paypal account set up. Soon after he received an official looking e-mail from paypal stating the funds had been deposited (into his fake paypal account!), and could he freight the bike to the address supplied. Needless to say, he wasn't sucked in and passed the details onto the Police.
Remember the old saying - If it sounds too good to be true, it probably isnt.  Â
Yup scam! And they will insist on paying via paypal and to do so please hand over your paypal details. With this they will forge an email by paypal stating that money has gone into your account or ask you to pay shipping fees etc etc etc. I honestly dont know of anyone whom has ever offered above the selling price for a birdcage? Sounds real dodgy and I would advise you steer clear, lose the sale if that is what it is but keep all your bank accounts, emails etc etc scam free
