where should the sa open be held? barossa is a nice little track and yeah good racing has been seen there but as far as other facilities go eg pit area spaces, out and ingrid, pa system, scales area, maybe sa is limiting itself to small entry numbers who from vic is coming along with other states? To see a high level of driving and competition maybe sa need to look at their choice maybe im wrong but seeing that there was less entries at the closed than the first round of state festival cup something is telling me otherwise!

I think its good to give the smaller clubs the chance to host a big meeting but seeing that whyalla had it last year I think they should hold the SA open at either Mount Gambier or Boliver this year. I would definitely make the trip over from vic to either one of these venues but i'll be giving Barossa a miss.
Nothing wrong with letting the smaller clubs run these big race meetings. But as was seen last year with whyalla, numbers will deffinetly be down.
What SA should do i think, is let the smaller clubs run the meeting, but hold it at one of the bigger tracks. That way the small clubs still get there turn at generating the money that comes with these meetings, and would actually make more money as the entries would be alot higher.
I understand monarto is yet to have all its facilities built? If it did i rekon run the meeting there, awsome looking track and its new.. people love new tracks so i rekon the numbers would be HUGE.
If not yeh you cant go wrong with boliver, still let the barossa kart club run the meeting, but at the bolivar track.
My 2c.
yeah, all comments will be the same toward this i think. I live in SA and bolivar is my home, I know the problem as to why barossa isnt using the state of he art bolivar facilities to run the SA open. Barossa are dead-set on it running at their 'newly improved'..... track, bolivar have offered their track free for use, and barossa take all proceeds apart from canteen profits. i think barossa are really excited about their new track and think that a big meeting (which might not be so big) will get their track known in australia. with lap times of 24 secs for leopard at the last meeting, big enough fields if they do get up, are going to be carnage ++++++. MAJORITY of SA are begging for them to reconsider the decision, but, i dont think there is much we can do. however, racing at tracks like this, we might just start being reknown for the "easy state title" just like Darwin, because no quality drivers are going to want to come up and race a 24 second track. i know any barossa lovers are gonna get on here and blast me for this, however, i know for a fact, almost all drivers, dont want it there. Mt. Gambier could benefit from another title over their way, but i am not sure if its got much chance fo change.
But for a few years ago – the rules would not have allowed Barossa to run the Open at their facility.
There was a minimum track length and therefore grid density requirement.
The NKC in their wisdom reacted to the "special" needs of speedway in NSW.
Instead of making an exemption for speedway – the gods of wisdom removed the restriction for all forms of racing.
I believe it will be on the agenda next year to reintroduce the minimum requirement for Bitumin Open Sprit Championships.
I HAVE NOTHING AGAINST BAROSSA!!
Their committee has done a fantastic job of improving their facility and I can understand their desire to showcase it to Australia.
They must come to realise that an Open State Championship is also a showcase for the State, and there is an obligation to provide the best we can.
500 meters just doesn’t cut it anymore.
My (at that time, having no track) club, held our rostered turn at Bolivar in 2007. We had 270 top class entries from all over – because drivers know it is a good track to race on.
I sincerely hope the Management of Barossa will see the light and make the move to Bolivar. (and pick up another 120+ entries!!!!!)
Next year is Dublin’s turn to host the event and it will be at Monarto .....provided the facility meets the requirements of the State body!
And Yes Josh .... it will be huge!!

Ian
so true, and yeh the "new" barossa layout is a bit of a joke, why bother upgrading a circuit but leave it at 500mtrs... that IMO was a waste of money.
To find out they where offered bolivar for FREE... why would anyone even need to think about that, of course they would run it there... surely..!!!
And as has been said, running a meeting like this dosnt jsut come down to the track, u need all the facilities, parking, pit space accomodation ect ect that goes with it.
All of which would be better at Mt. Gambier or Boliver.
And i also agree with you ash about AKASA, dont leave it up to the club, they have already shown their intention to run it at their facility, someone needs to step up and tell them their track just dosnt cut it, and they must use the FREE track they have been offered...
Heres hoping.
personally, i look at it as potential South Australian karitn suicide. running the SA open twice in a row at two undersized, under qaulity tracks could put a burden on our titles. what do we have to do to make them change this decision? a petition? vote at a meeting? something has to be done, because this SA open, is set to be the worst yet. the numbers are going to be down significantly. and if people read this thread, they will drop even further. running it at Bolivar would be the best option. not only could we get more numbers at the city of Adelaide ( i personally got a leopard pro class active with cash up for grabs ) because people would want practice for the SA open. who agrees?
i agree with all comments made as far as the trees go maybe our state track inspector should be able to see that having 1m round gum trees not even 3metres off the racing line is out of control. It was also displayed at the state closed in rotax that the track clearly does not have enough run off and that the cyclone fence was used to catch flying karts and there pilots.
Maybe SA karting association should take on some duty of care and take control of what may or could happen with some of the larger and faster classes at sa open. Yes motorsport is dangerous so why not do our best to control it,.
Hopefully the club realises the benefits of moving location not only for numbers but for the sake of SA's reputation and their own.
i would love to see it at mount gambier. they ran an awesome SA open a few years back would love to race there again for a blue plate! Bolivar is great to but i would rather mount gambier personally haha
I Have been looking for an excuse to get there this year this could be perfect lol I am not fussed where it is as long as the countries best are there.

Following the SA states last year, Whyalla has gone from a club with a handful of members, none of whom raced, to a club that now has enough racing members to hold small race meetings each month.
As a relative newcomer, I see large race meetings like state championships as not being only about the drivers, or the club. They are a showcase for the sport. They attract spectators who may never have seen a go kart outside of hire karts. They attract new drivers. Why should larger clubs be the only clubs to have this opportunity?
Of course this all relies on the club promoting the meeting to those outside of the sport. I didn't see much of that around town in Nuriootpa during the closed states at Barossa. Perhaps BAM could give them a helping hand ; )
we ran leopard light at the closed states and will not run at the track at large meetings. the old track was small and fun to drive on with a top speed of 85 kph the new layout is faster 109 kph and less overtaking places and hard on the body and around 23.9 sec it doesn't take long to do 21 laps for a final. bring on southern or the mount
