Ok so the Pro Tour is coming up pretty quick and theres over 300 registered competitors across 5 classes, seems like IKD has done there homework on this one! Drivers even get free breakfast!!
So whats everyone's thoughts and opinions on this, personally I think its going to be great particularly the build up to the Rotax Nationals at Eastern Creek and the TV coverage for karting. Should be some quality racing with some quality drivers plus heaps of laps. What more could you want. So who's off to Newcastle at the end of the month? Any favourites for the win?

I think this is the exact thing Australian karting neeeded.
Some sort of lets call it "elite series" but you know what I mean. Someone to lead the way and professionalise the face of karting. The racing should be second to none with its unique formats. And I'd hate to imagine how many current/previos state or national title holders are competing. Hopefully the events themselves can aquire some advertising. And some corporate partners come on board to commercialise and create a really exciting and unique events.
Well done to IKD!
i rekon it should be 1 hell of a event should be full of great high class racing but i think there should be more rounds at tracks not many people would know. but thats just my opinion cant wait for the event good luck to everyone who goes.
I am making the trip up - cannot wait.
Be interesting to see how many of those 300 registered actually race...
Check out the Newcastle Club website. The list of entrants was updated 14/5. One day before entries close and few less than 100 entered. 1 CIK. Its one thing for over 300 drivers to register there interest, but another to come up with the money. Have heard a few were put of with the $190 nominations (more expensive again at the second event).
Yes I can see how the entry fee would off put karters from attending, although I know alot of people who where leaving it till the last minute to enter. Probebly why they moved the entry date back to the 22nd. Although when you look at what you're getting for $190 it's pretty good value. 3 heats of 12 laps, Pre-final of 16 laps and a Final of 24 laps plus qualifying. Then T.V. coverage on FoxSports and a free breakfast for drivers. If you compare that to the $210 entry fee for the Victorian Open it seems quite good if you ask me, the only difference is you're not racing for a $5 blue plate, just maybe a spot for the World Finals. Hopefully the Newcastle Kart Club gets alot more entries, be great to see Australia having a major karting series again, perhaps something we could export to the Asia-Pacific region and make a championship like Oceania!

but, to get that trip you have to do 4 rounds... and a few state titles, and the nationals... to get the blue plate you only do one meting... :P
Plus, at least after the viccy open no one had to then go and pay for that plate, like you do with your rotax trip.. all your winning is the right to buy a trip overseas.. lol... anyone got a spare 20K?
The TV coverage and amount of laps you get at the pro tour is bloody awsome though... so im not saying its a rip off. I think the entry fee is fine.
Just not a big fan of all the fanboys talking up these (very expensive) rotax worlds trips so much, LOL.

$190 for exposure on fox sports is pretty good in my opinion.
I didn't say you have to buy the plate, I meant it was only worth $5, plus some sentimental attachment i spose, though you still have to pay for the blue stickers for the nasa pannel and side pods, theres like $1.50 haha.
Well its actually 20K - the entry free what a bargin lol, that pretty much rules me out. Hmmm I thought they use to be paid for, owell i can dream can't I.

ey sorry, when i said 20K it was just an exageration im sure.. i actually have NO idea how much they cost...
Basically just, airfares for yourself and mechanic(s), accomodation, spending money, entry fees ect... im not 100% but all i no is it ISNT a paid for trip... IKD dont happen to mention that very often :P
Anyway as has been stated, the amount of laps and TV coverage you get makes it a pretty well spent $190 IMO, even if you dont end up winning any of the prizes at the end.
cmon dyl, im sure u can drive 100% for 20minutes... ;-)
Looking at the entries now, they are pretty good. JMA has over 30, and RL is 24, more than we had at the vic open. It just looks bad as they have only have 6 classes, and KF1, DD2 and Rotax over 35's are not huge.
Haha, are you going to Raleigh? I think at Newcastle we decide about the 1hr enduro
Dylan Lindgren said:Yeah the 24 lap final is going to be awesome! that's like a 20 minute race at Newcastle! So much for 'Sprint Karting'... it certainly wont be a sprint! D.
