oh bugger..lol
Check the rule book but I think it says the earlier barrels can be used till end of 2011
If you go to an 08 barrel then you are limited to tight barrel and head profile specificatons
CNC barrels are not yet available to my knowledge
so everyone is in the same boat then...
cheers
Ran
I've looked into this barrel thing and what I can see is that there has been 2 after market barrels available and they don't have rotax australia stampings on them.... but I did hear yesterday that all barrels have to be replaced with new spec ones by end 2011 at a cost of around $1000 each.... I've got 3 motors 05,07 & 08 spec.... no diff between them so unless 09 spec are better !! the rumour is untrue..... after 5 years of backing rotax I am starting to get pissed at our new Rotax supplier (IKD) since they have had it rotax parts have gone thru the roof yes the world has changed over the last 2 yrs but an exhaust goes from $300 to $500 and now clutch from $300 to $650 this is RUDE and I feel this could be a cash grab........ and now we all potentially have to spend around $1700 per engine to bring up to spec or unable to race/practice on any AKA track I have not changed the engines from what I brought !!. $1000 barrel, $650 clutch & $100 clutch cover...... I'm pissed off because IKD never informed or tried to justify to us karters about these massive price hikes we are talking in excessive of 60% .......

thats bullshit! So the new motor i just bought, and my bro just bought will be useless in 2 years, and yet they still sell them!!
i think i could stick my engine up the IKDs ass very easily if they do this, ill be kind and use high grade oil to do so though!
re prices, ive been slowly buying bits off ebay cause the new prices are so high.
Steve......... a cash grab.?......surely not. Our wonderful suppliers would never do this . The KIAA and AKA would stop such a thing . I'm shocked you would suggest such a thing......lol.hehehe
Ran I told you to stick with your Leopard.. lol
I heard a rumour that the after-market barrels (ie barrels brought from overseas) have been declared illegal now?? I've also heard that in some cases when the math was done on the new barrels that they could possibly be up to 17% faster? This was just heresay, but it really makes you wonder . . . I can understand rotax want to bring Australia inline with the "world" rules, but it's going to hit people pretty hard at a time that they can least afford it . . . and I don't even own a rotax (I did, but moved on as it wasn't the motor for me).
And Truey - thats just funny mate !!!!!! lol
haha..well thats a whole different story of woe isnt it with the X30 coming out.... looks like all engines are getting fd up, yammie, rotax, leopard etc etc...
the "after market" barrels you speak of arnt actually after market, they are just the new, 2009 spec, full CNC machined rotax barrel. and yes, the rumour is in excess of 15% power increase.
If people have been bringing in their own 09 barrels they will be illeagle, because they dont have the stamp on them, thats always been the rules here in aus, an engine raced here must of been imported by our rotax distributor, IKD.
Whats more the issue is WHEN will IKD start selling these new engines as regular stock, at the moment they seems to be selling 2009 engines (new clutch and balance gears) but with the 08 (non CNC) barrel on them? witch i find very strange.
As the period stands now, this new barrel will be mandatory for every single rotax competitor by 2011, and they are going to have to start selling them very soon, as i would assume thats all BRP rotax will supply them..??
Who knows, and i certainly dont envy the position IKD are in here, trying to phase in a product that is allegibly 17% faster would be a very hard task, and it isnt really there fault. Im sure it all could of been handled a little better, but when it comes down to it, eventually they HAVE to sell the engine that Rotax are making.
PS, just wanna add that i didnt really double chack anything iv said here, if any dates or facts are wrong i will stand corrected!
Josh
cheers fot that mate, IKD must have felt left out of the crap and decided hey we can start our own shit storm! i wonder if they will have to do as remo did and wear some of the costs with the upgrade, it seems only fair that they do. well fair doesnt come into it really....
hey a great drive on sunday mate, i watched the race, and it looked tough, but you held ur own in what looked like a allstar field!
haha cheers ran, saturday is when you wanted to be watching me though! Didnt quite get it right in sundays final :-(
as far as IKD wearing some of the costs.. who knows, i guess everyone just has to sit tight and see what they end up doing.
