Hi Gang,
Hoping someone can offer some help.
I was on about the 5th lap around Oakleigh today coming in the right hander at the end of the back straight when the rear wheels just locked half way through the corner at pretty much full throttle - flicked me left pretty hard, managed to control it and skidded across the track to the inside grass before the rears unlocked - the engine stopped when they rears locked.
And before you ask, being only my 5th time in the kart, yes I did have a small accident in the pants area ;)
I then tried to restart it, but it wouldnt start - engine turned over but didnt engage if that makes sense. When turn the key, it makes a constant straining sound, but wont kick over. Then when on the trolley, the wheels turn freely. Chain was fine, brake pedal hadnt locked on as we thought, temp was 48 deg when happened, everything looked normal.
I'm running a Leopard RL with restrictor.... or should i say was...
Any thoughts appreciated.
Andy

You seized the engine I suspect or at least have had it seize and then free.
Definitely seized the engine…

Thanks guys for the quick reply. Figured I'd seized it, but confused me when the rears turned freely again. Guess we'll see what mr engine man says - guessing round $800-$1000.
Cheers all!Anthony Burke said:Yup. $$$$$$$ Get a GOOD engine builder to have a look.

Dunno bout fireball Stevo- I'd done 3 laps steadily increasing each lap till it got to 50 digs - it would have locked around that or more, by time I got the trolley and back to kart woulda been 5 mins - never had it over 56 degs since I got it, just doesn't seem to heat that high to over 60

by the 5th lap should be up around mid 60 degrees, well second lap its in the mid 50s at least
i dont open mine up till its over 50

the wheels turn freely because you have a clutch
Couple of things... for the wheels to lock up with a clutch I figure something has either broke in the clutch or your brakes grabbed and stopped you ...when the engine siezes when you have a clutch, it does not lock up the wheels !!! " You just keep rolling so the problem is as above ...clutch or brakes.. Old Jungle saying !!!!
Yup, I broke a clutch once and it locked the rear wheels.
Have seen a Leopard RL seize & it did lock up the rear wheels. It probably released but didn't stop the guy burying it in the gravel trap! There was no problems found with the clutch afterwards.

At first the guy that was behind me when it happened thought I'd snapped a bolt in the brake pedal and caused it to lock em, but no such luck - brakes and pedal all work ok. Another thought it might have been the clutch, i immediately thought I'd seized the engine - am convinced I've got a lemon (does 'lemon' translate from car to kart world?!) given the amount of stuff gone wrong with it in a few months.
Off to kart shop tonight with it for the bad news - will post the verdict when i know.
Thanks guys!
