Ok, im wayyy over for my class, we run at 170kgs and im 186 currently...now i could afford to drop 5-10 kgs, but really thats about it and i think the 5 will be do-able but 10 hmmmmm.
So what can you get off the kart??i have put on a smaller fuel tank, am changing from standard alloy rims to magnesium. what else? How much can i get out of side pods and nose cone??
thoughts
cheers

smaller battery... but really nothing!!
i wont cut the steel bars but i have heard you can get a fair amount out of the plastics. On the CRG it has a top steel bar in the pods that i have been told i can cut with out effecting set up. Im actually still doing really well at this weight, but it would be great to shed some both on myself and the kart.
Hey Ran, you run a CRG yeah? Those NA2 plastics are SUPER heavy compared to some of the KG stuff (the price you pay for looking awesome I guess!)... I know you'll look somewhat gumbier, but the Junior KG nosecone is probably a full 1.5kg lighter than your nosecone. I'd imagine there would potentially be a similar (overall) gain in a pair of pods.
Tom, I think you'll find alloy pod bars are now illegal (and have been for... probably eight years!). Definitely 1 or 2 kg to find in making all your own alloy brackets for everything else though. (see you at Pucka dude...)
Have you thought about your race suit Ran? They can vary a lot too.
Short of spending a small fortune, not a great deal. Eg. Mag Hubs, Carriers.
Just drill holes in everything.
yep i think my pods and nose cone are about to be full of holes, and great idea re making certain mounts out of alloy.
Im going to pucka on sunday to watch, if u spot me Col come and say hi, im easy to spot with the neck/ hand tattoos..
hey Ran, I'm easy to spot too because I'm almost as short as Fongy...
only 12 times louder :)
Tom, do you have any in black? or black and orange?
cool as mate, see u on the sunday.
BUMP!!!!! At what lenghts can you go to to "drill out" your kart. Just how much can you drill.
Cheers.

Depends on what bits you're targetting with that holesaw. As long as you follow the Australian Kart Formula you should be safe, Things to look out for example are,
"Rule 25.02 (vi) Side pod mounting bars must be pinned or bolted using minimum 6mm diameter (steel) fixing. Open ends to be radiused. Drilling metal components for lightness is not permissible. Tube diameter must not exceed 30mm."
"Rule 25.02 (viii) The outside vertical surface of a side pod must be predominately uniform and smooth, having no additional cut outs or holes other than;
- Those required for their attachement, nominally maximum 6mm screws with "Button" style head only
- a passage for an external starter shaft.
- It may have a 30mm by 30mm (maximum) groove along its length.

helmet. their weight can be from about 500g to 1.5kg. but light=$$$$$
race suit also weighs quite a lot and if you are not using race boots then the is another small saving of weight.
the intrusion bar at the back can be removed.
but realy karts are about what is needed at best so not to much weight can be shed.
Someone told me the Top Kart sidepods were somewhat lighter than the KG's Col. Have you heard the same thing or no?
