the numbers are already down this year for the nationals compared to past years and they are being run at townsville which is a top track. so if townsville cant even attract decent numbers, how can any one expect darwin to be a big meeting????
Let darwin run it once. If it is a failure then the AKA can tell them it wont be heading back up north. At least if Monarto get to host then nationals when it is SA's turn it will give them another year to make sure everything is perfect.

Mate great amount of detail there buddy.... you in marketing somewhere ??? I'm with you it is crazy decision making which begs the question about motivation of "crazy decisions"...... In the five years I've in been in the sport (i'm in melb) it's been in Perth, Adelaide,Sydney,Tassie & now Townsville.... My thoughts is that it should be run with metro Melb,Syd & Bris getting the event every three years and on the fourth year should alternate around the other states and regional areas of Vic,NSW & Qld.. so in theory perth (would get the nationals every 15 years or so) nationals at Geelong or Todd Road would be absolutely huge.... I reckon you'd get 350+ enteries......
JNL (50), JNH (40), JC (30), SNL (30), SNH (20), CL (60), CH (40), CSH (20), LL (50), LH (30) ......
personally i dont think it should leave the eastern seaboard.
Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane,
those out side these states should get free entry or something to off set the entry.
but then again,
the numbers are down a lil yes, because not everyone could afford to travel up here (to Townsville) but on the flip side we gotta travel just as far every other time (even for our own state title) an its not any cheaper.... So yes the majority should be held where the highest concentration of karters are BUT all other parts of the country should have the privlidge of also hosting the nationals.
So a sensible rotation system would be good, for example by categorising suitable tracks (not all are long enough or have enough pit space) by the distance away from the highest concentration of karters. Say 'group 1' VIC and southern NSW, 'group 2' Tassie, SA, Northern NSW, SE QLD, and 'group 3' WA, NT, North/Central QLD..... rotating sensibly in a system like (by group number): 1, 2, 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 1, 2, 3, etc etc.....
Also some kind of subsidy for karters needing to travel further distances would be great, either by cheaper nominations, or maybe cheaper fuel through the AKA seeking sponsorship (trailers sporting a sticker for the trip like the YAMAHA ones issues for the kart), or alternatively organisation and alliance with a logistics company for clubs a long distance from the venue so a container can be sent with multiple karts from these clubs and be packed and delivered, and returned to the venue together. Again in return for some sponsor signage on these karts for the meeting.
In the end you want the national champs to be the best drivers in the country, having to set up the kart in any given climamate and track condition, not just the best drivers from south east Australia on tracks they race on every other weekend, so every karter in Australia, if they are good enough, should get the opportunity to compete, and to win on a certain year without selling their arm, leg or their first born....

At the end of the day the best karters in the country will travel anywhere for the illusive green plate.. The difference between having a national title in Melborne to say having it in Darwin is the amount of club day heroes that fill grid positions 10 through to 40th. Obviously theres a whole lot more in Melbourne. My belief is the quality will be there no matter where it is held. Regional clubs need the opportunity to hold the event to raise funds to improve there racetracks and facilities so us karters have better racing throughout ALL of Australia.
Come race NZ Nats - it would probably be cheaper and no where near as far as Darwin......
Darwins an awesome track, apart from the curbs which are waayyy to high... But all the names that are up the front no matter what event they race in WILL travel but unfortunately I think numbers would probably be limited to locals and the big names which is a shame cos of the great track layout

This.
The NT states last year is one of the best meets I have ever done....mainly for the atmosphere. The NT government gets right behind major events like this, and I reckon you will see "sponsored freight/travel" deals on the table as it gets closer, but I urge everyone who can, make the effort to make a holiday of it. Darwin is a fantastic place, fantastic friendly people, and well worth the visit.....even if you only do it once.
Word is, the NT Titles will be the week before, then the Nationals, the weekend after will be the V8s.......sounds like a one month holiday.......
It sounds like theres a lot of Bernie Ecclestones on this forum that want every thing run as close to the eastern sea board, like bernie wants everything close to europe ie time and stuff like that. i am sure everyone would jump up and down if they were told the AGP will only happen every 5 years becaues the teams all have to travel so far. Telling WA they could only host the nationals every 20 year would be like doing that with the AGP
It's hardly fair to compare the most expensive form of motorsport in the world, where tens of millions of dollars are childs play, to apparently 'affordable motorsport'.
