will the agenda, and future agendas be published on the AKA website?
Hi,
If you go to the AKA web site the agendas and minutes are listed.

Thanks.
Hi All,
Agenda has been posted on http://akansw.com.au/news.asp?catID=4
The camera item is on there so if you have a specific wording for a ruling now is the time to put it forward.

Hi Craig,
Thanks for drawing our attention to that one - I'd like to have a crack at it if I may:
Rules for mounting and use of on-board cameras:
1. All cameras must be mounted in a safe and secure manner. Any official may demand the removal of a camera at any time if they deem the mounting method or location to be dangerous.
2. Cameras must be mounted to the kart using a bolted or clamped connection (no suction or sticky tape acceptable). Mounting method must be capable of withstanding the forces and vibration of normal operation of the kart.
3. Camera and mount must be free of any sharp edges or protrusions likely to harm a competitor in the result of of an accident. It is recommended that the mount be a properly designed, commercially available mount advertised for use in motorsport.
4. Mounting location must not protrude unnecessarily from the kart, nor place the camera in a position where it is likely to harm another competitor or interfere with their kart.
5. Camera and mount must be secured to the kart with a secondary restraint strap, of either nylon webbing (seat belt / tie-down type material) or steel cable (as per exhaust tether requirements). Secondary restraining strap must be mounted so as to prevent the camera or mount from separating from the kart in the event of a crash, and must loop through/around the chassis or a steel crashbar.
6. Any competitor wishing to participate in an event with an onboard camera must have the mounting method inspected and approved by an official before competing.
What do you think of that effort? I tried to be specific, without making it impossible to pass (with a reasonable setup).
Mal - I totally agree, and I'm glad to see that item in there. I think it's VERY important (as I have alluded to in my 2009 Top Ten conclusion).
PS, I'd like to avoid a "prior to scrutineering" rule as there are times (such as the CIK event occurring on the very same weekend as the NKC meeting, that I will be filming) where a single onboard camera may be used on multiple karts in a single event. I don't see this as a problem, so long as the mounting method is cleared by the Clerk of Course or scrutineers, and is configured the same on all the karts the camera is mounted to.
PPS, I found some other rules from other organisations:
Nasa rally sport (National Auto Sport Association) (Rallying) 2004 3.6.21 Camera and Camera Mounts
Camera mounts and their attachment to the vehicle shall be of a safe and secure design which would prevent either driver from being able to strike any part of the mount. As well, the camera shall be secured at a minimum of two different points and neither attachment may be elastic or plastic.
CASC (Canadian Automobile Sports Clubs) 2004 regs page 60, section 26
Video Equipment – In car camera or videotape recording equipment is permitted provided the installation is approved by the Event Chief Scrutineer and subject to the provision that the stewards of the event may impound any photographic film or videotape recording made during a track session.

Thats not quite correct Craig - there is an agenda item to have the current rule remain the same and that was placed on the agenda by a MEMBER of the Association prior to the closing date for agenda ..!!!
There is also a letter from a private company requesting they be permitted to sell a camera ..they are under the misapprehension that they are not allowed to sell their product .!!! .well that's not the case at all - they can sell sand to the karters if they want, and AKA can't stop that either - ! and its a bit late to be sending in suggestions for mounting a camera because the only agenda item for the meeting that I can see is to have the rule remain the same .. there is no agenda item from any MEMBER STATE to alter the existing rule ..!!!
Correct me if I am wrong !!
.
Ralph,
I am not going to enter into a dispute with you about the roles and rights of the NKC as I have discussed this elsewhere. The agenda states the following
"Items carried over from November 2009 meeting
Cameras on Karts Rules and regulations to be sorted at next NKC meeting."
As there is nothing more mentioned, and you are quite aware that discussion will follow. If I have something to take to the meeting from the karters that has been thrown around constructively it should help in the decision making process.
I understand your club has put the other item forward to leave it alone.
Some may even read your item and agree some may not. Lets discuss it and see what the feeling is.

Hi Craig hope alls well.
My only suggestion is at the next NKC concerning the cameras is that they call for tender/ approved design of mounting devices and approved Kart positioning when in events. This probably would be a good idea at this time to include a representative from AKA insurance companys /or underwriters to attend to gain their thoughts as well. Two birds with one stone (to save time and effort). Has anyone suggested an approved design of camera mounts as yet? Or even given examples of a proposed design? This would be a good place to start as a finished ( or CAD example may get interest flowing.
Prior to the meeting I would also suggest the CAMS mounting system as approved for external mount cameras.
Also the AKA scruitineering rep to be prepared to alter scruit forms and make addendums to the AKA book if it passes without objection. Hopefully with all info in hand it will be an easy process taking safety as the main subject of discussion as applied to camera mounting on karts.
I personally don't see a major obstacle , as long as the safety/oh&s angle is secured first.
Hope it all works out.
Regards Glenn
My 2 cents.

There is no dispute - this is discussion ...and robust it should be ..
Yes I see the item Craig ...I also note the absence of detail – nothing included in the agenda -!!! the last NKC meeting was NOVEMBER ..so where are the proposed suggestions so that the karters can see them and clubs and their members discuss them and make an informed decision ??? - it all too late now and just shows, that between NOVEMBER and now NOTHING has been done in respect of this item or anything circulated - so what does the NKC actually do apart from the obvious ???.
What will happen goes like this fellas…!!! something out of the air will be dropped on the table without any information supplied to the karters, without review and the NKC will knee jerk to introduce or alter a rule without any consultation with anyone involving various products ..if this had been done then we would have seen details and recommendations !! ..That's' how normal things progress isn't it .???????????
Col says on another thread :
(Now Ralph, if you could STOP pointing out rules to prevent me from having the ludicrous camera rule revoked, I would appreciate it =D )
Col there is nothing stopping anyone from using a camera NOW for your own promotional purpose…!! ! that’s the whole point ..all that needs to be done is for the mounting to be inspected and approved by the guy ! If you fix it as you do the wire harness loom as done for 125 engine kart, then there is no reason why you would be denied it's use NOW under the current rule..
What defines – “promotional purpose “ …!!! Inviting your mate to the track is a promotional purpose , showing your mates your video is a promotional purpose ..I am sure there are a hundered promotional purposes and in the absence of it being difinitive who'se to say what it is ..!!!!!
Cheers
Craig,
Ralph's raises a very valid point, why does the NKC allow delegates to make uniformed decisions or put them into this position?. Its quite clear that they risk to yet again make a decison on the camera situation WITHOUT giving the members an opportunity to instruct their delegate.
Look at the ALL the controvercial decision that come from these meetings there is one COMMON thread, deleagtes voting on items that have NOT been given the opportunity to be properly discussed.
IF something is lobbed onto the table regarding the cameras, send it back to the states for discussion, THEN vote. get the procedures in order and integidy will begin to be restored into the system.
