What "Newcastle Performance" will be (numbers permitting), is a class that will support DD2, TAG 125(MG yellows) and CIK classes at club level. Obviously in NSW drivers who run these classes or plan to run these classes in the future don't have the same support as VIC or SA.
So I have spoken briefly to Tony (NKRC President) about this and if we can get this up and running for 2012 he will support it.
I am planning to have trial run for the class early in 2012 with basically the following classes competing on track together at the following weights.
TAG 125(MG Yellows) 170kgs
DD2 175kgs
KZ2 185kgs
KF1. 175kgs
Obviously there more classes that would eligible as per the AKA rules of "Open performance" but they can be discussed at a later time.
Tony is happy to run the class, the only issue will be the amount if time available for the days racing. This means we would have to be on the track at the same time as Sportsman 125 light and heavy. However I don't foresee this as a problem as usually sportsman only field no more then about 5 for both classes and we can negotiate starting separately on the track. Obviously there will be a parraty issue but I'm happy to take suggestions on fixing this problem. The above weights are just a starting idea.
For this class to run, Tony wants atleast 3 or 4 entries and he has said if 8 or more show up he will arrange trophies with the club. However I was thinking the if we didn't quite make 8 entries I'll speak to my sponsor about organizing some nicer trophies anyway.
Put your ideas forward. I am a big supporter of TAG On MG yellows as CIK classes. NSKC is trialing TAG on yellows and I think it's time to get this class noticed again to he new comers.
Your thoughts? And let me know if you're interested...

This is an excellent way to destroy club karting even further. It would seem this idea has stemmed from selfish go-karters who want to race a class with no competition. Good luck with it.

It's not about that at all and it's just a trial as I stated. It's about giving DD2, leopard and others race/track time. It's not about being selfish or trophy hunting. Myself and others I know just want race time as our classes are left out of club meetings and none of us have ANYWHERE! to race our classes in NSW. It's a compromise and that's a completely unfair and unfounded comment. I myself and others don't care about trophies, we just want to be ready when we race state/nationals. It works at Canberra and their club hasn't been "Destroyed"
When i asked for opinions. I want to here from those who want to race it. Not people who have nothing to do with it.
It works at Canberra and their club hasn't been "Destroyed"What works at Canberra? They run Rotax only classes and there open is DD2. I have run a KZ2 there at the Canberra Cup, but it was more of a once off thing.
I love my F100. I wish I could drive it at every AKA meeting against other F100 drivers, but I can't. I wait all year for the one race I can run it against other F100's at the Nationals. So what do i do - i run the classes that do race in NSW. I don't try and create an environment for me and 3 other karters.
You have all equipment to run Sportsman 125 with what i believe should be the fastest engine (x30) if not equal to the Rotax. All you have to do is put Reds on and race us. But you don't? You need to get quick enough against club day drivers before you start aiming for the stars and Sportsman 125 in NSW is right there waiting for you. Why wouldn't i think you are trying to run a class with no competition?
This is not a personal attack or anything. I don't really know you, but have seen you at the back of the grid. I cannot recall ever racing you. But I just don't see the point in not running the class that is there for you and your kart. As i said before, good luck with your new class. I hope you get to race the class you want.

Your calling me I'm a trophy hunter? I race leopard heavy and I'm asking kz2 drivers to come race with me? Clearly I'm not looking for trophies and I don't care about them im looking for challenge and track time.. You are clearly an advocate for Sportsman that's great but I don't think you need to put your 2c into every discussion that doent effect you . There a many people who think it is severly flawed. I imagine this why NSKC intends to fix this issue and I support it 100%.
Canberra runs open performance. I would race it but its bloody long way to go for a club meeting. I didnt start conversation for argument. It's just an invitation to drivers to come race at newy.
May I extend an invite to you to bring your f100 or kz2 to newy for a race. This is what this is for. Some fun and track time.
No i am not calling you a trophy hunter.at all. I said I don't understand why you would want to race with no competition. That doesn't mean I think you are racing a category so you will be out in front winning trophies. It means I think you don't want to race the rest of us in Sportsman 125 where all the competition is. You can be down the back of open performance in your leopard getting lapped and it will still be called "racing with no competition"
You have missed my point completely. I do not want to roll around by myself on a race day. I can go practicing for that. Your idea doea affect me because it prooves another point i have made previously that TAG-R is breeding a new karter that thinks they can race as protected species. Thankyou for being a perfect example.

Really enjoyed my first weekend in Sportsman 125 I really like the class to. I really enjoyed working on the kart to make faster. It's just a shame I wasn't fully on top of it till the last race. I really like this class. The drivers good and it was good challenge. I really like the choice of engine/tyres idea. It's a good mix up with lots of opinions as to what combination of engine, chassis, tyre and driver is best. I was really encuraged after feeling how much pace my kart had in the final, though I clearly need to workon my race craft as a I found it hard to get past slower karts...
That was a humbling comment... I don't know how you have changed your mind so much in 6 months.
For the record, I do think there are issues with Sportsman 125. I have said it many times. But the solution is to work with it and get more karters racing each other more often, competitively. Not to make it worse by separating from the flock. If the NSW AKA decide TAG is on Yellows, then I will support it. At the mo we are on Reds and having great racing, which is what we are meant to be karting for.
I don't want to argue with you. It is pointless. Good luck with your Open Class.

Well I guess I started leopard and loved much more!!
Matt, Can I bring my 200 Super down and run in this class? Max.

Max,
Im not familier with that class, it will need to fit into the AKA rule book

I can't stress enough that this is by no means a big event, it's just to give newy and Sydney drivers of these karts some track time with their kart with out having to travell so far. Iv spoken to some dd2 blokes at my club who are keen, because they want to race a bit more often. It's just for fun and some track time in kart configuration we love to drive. A few of us want to do it. This is just an invite to others.
Mal Crosher said:KZ's won't run OP mate. Better off going down track in own time.
DD2's seem to run OP provided it's DD2 only (unless the KZ gets a good round like Winton then the DD2's want in).
Better off getting a f100/open 125 reed valve class and let everyone go.IMO

DD2, KF1, and KZ2 have never been able to race at club days. Anyone who bought those engines would have done so knowing they can only race at Pro Tour or CIK. They want to race at a high level and they do so knowing their class isn't catered for at club days.
With the X30 you have a class you can run at club meetings. Sportsman isn't perfect, but it's better than having a Leopard class and a Rotax class that will only get 3-5 entries. Club days struggle enough getting decent sized fields, so support the classes your club offers instead of pushing your own agenda.
If you want to run on yellows then follow the title meets, or push for the sportsman rules to be changed. :-)
They do.
Have a look here if you are not familiar with them - awesome beasts - 2 x 100cc reed or rotary valve motorshttp://www.twinsuper.com/apps/photos/album?albumid=10688409

They have been part of karting since the early days
