Can anyone assist with Phoenix seat position tips - Leopard heavy
I am approx 93kg - 170cm running large kartech seat
I have tried various spots with mixed kart reactions currently set at 23mm off the ground
220 from axel - 110 forward from rear of axel
the kart seems to have more side bite now but I imagine it will change from track to track
any help from drivers around my size would be appreciated.
std set up I found that it would push towards the end of the meeting - moving it forward has helped there.

Ask Col, the bloke that owns this kartbook.net thing, he might have an idea or 2 ;)
Hi peter, form memory i had my seat 5 sprokets of the deck, 100 from back of the axle and 190 from axle to bottom of the lip on rear of the seat.. this should give aroud 110mm from floor tray to front lip of your seat where your leg is... what are your front end settings and axle position? Talk soon
Thanks Hayden,
I run the stubs central in height - anywhere from 1-3mm neg per side and std caster
generally less than 1mm toe out per side.
Rear axel - central and currently using a medium, I have played around with rear hubs med/short
It seems to feel better with short hubs.
I have had max caster though I found it a bit heavy to steer - maybe I need to do a bit of training !
Our track has a very coarse surface

Hi Pete
Generally, all karts rely heavily on seat position. With the phoenix kart, I used to run the seat about 85-95mm from the back of the axle to the seat. I would never run anything past 95mm. If you are, this normally tells you that there are issues somewhere else. From memory about 5 sprockets off the ground, and 200 from the centre of axle to the lip of the seat. On MG Yellows run the front tight, with std caster, 3mm neg per side and 1mm toe out.
Cheers
Thanks for the advice guy's - this weekend is a club run, I'll see how things go
If I have moved the seat too far forward I guess the fronts won't last long !

Hi pete, yes your right having the seat too far foward will give you more push in the front and you will notice excessive graining on the fronts.. i used to run about 95mm from inside of the rim to center of the king pin. short bolt on hubs on the front also...
When I ran Leopard I ended up with the seat at 4 sprockets under the seat, 75mm from the axle and 205mm on the tilt and it transformed the kart. Seat was further forward @ 85mm and 90mm before that. This was in the spitfire though and with 6" fronts (a stevo trick) 70mm front hubs (about 100mm from king pin to rim), +3 pos and +1.5 toe per side, front bar out, neutral - max caster, 1395 rear, med axle and 75mm rear hubs.
Kart was a demon and straight out of the trailer and did 33.2 in heavy @ Gladstone (coarse surface too) but as it turns out I never ran the lopez as it was the last meeting I did in Leopard.
The 6" fronts solved my front tyre wear issues too.
Hi guy's, I would like to thank Hayden - Matt & Marty fo rtheir tips in set up.
We had our club run today and I tried various changes. The biggest effect was front end set up to approx 92mm from king pin to rim. I had been using a long front hub. worked a treat - turn in was dirct & stable.
seat position changes - tilted the seat back which reduced the dimensions to axel 100 from rear - 205mm centre & 25 mm clearance.
I find on smooth / fine grade track surfaces the kart handles very well with a lot of side bite and the set up is forgiving.
Coarse track surface requires a very precise steering input (still learning) and today things seemed to work well
Once again thanks for your help. and good luck at your next event.
Pete

Hey pete good to hear you made progress. You should move the seat back to at least 80-85mm from the back of the axle. This will be a life changing moment!!. Do this first.
