Im sick of watching the V8's and the F1's and everyone saying on TV that its awsome racing when most of us karters r almost falling asleep while watching and knowing that kart racing and Aussie Racing cars are much more interesting to watch. So do you think that karting and the Aussie Racing cars should be on TV?

would love it as all karters would, state/nat titles would be the best to cover, as its not club based or risks any agro about whose event gets coverage and whose doesn't etc. events like protour leopard series would be good.
But you look at what goes on the 1hd channel etc, the rallying in Aus, etc I would expect the team would have paid for it somehow? its expensive things TV coverage. but agree if we could get it on mainstream TV free to air etc it will raise the profile.
As said on another thread, you would need a damn good show to get karting on Free-to-air TV.
You would need a series with one or two classes ONLY and have the best of the best racing.
IMO, in order to get this you need big bucks to promote it, big bucks in prizes etc. to lure the best drivers in, and drivers with big bucks that can afford travelling/high entry fees.
If it were up to me to organise it, I'd offer KZ2 & KF3, the premier Senior and Junior classes over 4 or 5 rounds. If you offer massive prizes you will get the entries, making a great show.
Oh and just to throw my 2 bob in, I think Aussie Racing Cars are a joke... But that's a different story =)
This was the response I got from Paul Carruthers (auto action magazine) when I asked about getting Karting onto TV:
"Adam, that is exactly what karting needs, free to air TV but without a truck load of cash and a marketable product it just wont happen. I honestly believe we need one PREMIER Class/series & personally I think it needs to be a CIK style deal. We need a presentation, an event with prestige, history, colour, atmoshphere and of course all of the best karters striving to be the best which in turn will provide great racing an again in my opinion something worth actually watching on TV. If you don't have the money to buy TV you need to have one hell of a show to get it for a good price.
And a premier karting series will only help club based karting as it will get the sport more media coverage and it will also give youngsters something to strive towards. You only need to look overseas to see big karting events making a difference. Just have a look at most of the drivers who really make it in the world of motorsport, they've almost certainly got a CIK title or similar under their belt."
Pro-tour took the gamble with fox TV and I believe whilst great TV financially broke even??? if that???
But yes CIK would probably be the event to cover. I vaguely remember seeing CIK on TV years ago and it was impressive.
but without the bucks its all a nice thought sadly
Adam... I would rather see all our marketing dollars being spent on improving the tracks around the country and paying professionals to help run and make decisions on the sport than splashing cash to watch yourself on TV....... Karting is never going to be a TV sport with an audience like the V8's or F1's never in a million years......As to drivers making it with CIK championships.. I agree but if you won the Oz CIK championship that would mean squat on the international stage !! sad but true.......If any young driver wants to gain a career in open wheelers or even tin tops they need to spend time in Europe and then after that if they achieve some success doors will open back home or in US like Briscoe & Power....Leave the TV to V8 show and lets get better tracks & facilities and work on keeping people in the sport... with over 6000 registered licence holders in Oz (which represents less than 0.003%) of our population.... If we focussed on better tracks with more comfortable facilities we may get more spectators at the tracks spending their hard earned cash on pies, chips & drinks... this is what the clubs need............anyway thats my rant.......

Steve, you don't think that getting the sport out to the broader public would generate more interest equaling more members?
Not arguing, just debating =)
Also, I agree that if kids want to move forward then Europe is the only option.
But... What if Oz CIK became very popular and became an interest to overseas competators. Hell we had the Oceana Championships at Todd rd in '96, why couldn't it happen again?
and again at Raleigh in 2000.
sadly the link to OS CIK racing soon broke after that as huge costs and poor admin saw CIK dosappear. and only now trying to begin again, but its a compromised effort, controlled not open CIK. and SHOULD be aimed at the kids as am told if you are still in karts at 16 its too late for any F1 hopes.
But I tend to agree with Steve J, there is already a heck of a lot of money spent aimed at the 5% of todays karters its about time the 95% got some attention.

Adam definately we need to get the sport out to the greater public but TV is not the vehicle... what times were the Fox shows on ???? crap times where no one except some one like us would know and most likely record it because we are either asleep or at work .......... I would rather race in front 1000 spectators at the track then a 2 TV camera's anyday....

The fact is that Aussie Racing Cars was getting just as bigger following as the V8's and they, V8 Supercar head honcho's, decided that it would be a 'smart' business decision and good for another category to get a time slot. But I bet everyone here would run to the TV for Aussie Racing Cars than V8 Supercars. I might be wrong but I know I would ;)
Hey mate aussie racing cars are on tv there on speed week on sbs I watched jacobson last w/e he went gd got thrid in one of the heats it was at oran park and karts are on foxtel every now and then but they should be on more often
