Can anyone clarify for me this new class.
My son has just had his licence upgraded to JMAX.
The class allows for 8 engines, the JMAX being one.
My son is too light for JMAX. with kart at 100kgs he and the kart weigh 144kgs
Can he race in Junoir performance as the rule for weight reads
37.05 Weights:
100 cc Air-cooled – 135Kg Minimum
100 cc Water-cooled – 140Kg Minimum
125 cc Water-cooled – 145Kg Minimum
These minimum weights to be reviewed at each NKC meeting throughout the year 2010 to
achieve parity.
but under rule
37.01 Engine Eligibility:
• Rotax Junior Max 125
it says to refer chapter 35 Technical specs.(this is for JMAX)
does this mean that the 100kg max kart weight applies?
If so that means my son can't race a JMAX but can race a Rotax Max 125 with the kart weight at 101kgs +

Ian,
What you say is correct. However, comon sense should dictate that 100Kg applies to all TAG 125 options in Junior Performance.
Personally, I don't believe that we should allow small kids to race karts approaching 2 1/2 times their own body weight.
Look on the bright side, if he is like most kids at that age, it won't be too long before he puts on a couple of kilos, and solves the problem.

NO THE RULE BOOK DICTATES…
NO THE RULE BOOK DICTATES. no where in the rules for rotax max 125 or any 125 tag does it have a max kart weight. Terry Sheedy said:Ian,What you say is correct. I thought it was only classes with multiple weight divisions that had max kart weights for the heavies? May be wrong, but that's what I always thought. 88 kg for A/C and 100 kg for W/C. If that's the case, chuck another 1 kg of lead on and wait until he grows a bit more, which if he's a junior should be every month or so, haha.
Rotax, Leopard and restricted TAG 125 do indeed have a maximum kart weight. It is 100Kg, but only if you are racing in the heavy division. JMax has a maximum kart weight of 100Kg also.
The official word is that for Junior Performance, unlike JMax, there is no maximum kart weight.

Drink a litre and a half of water before each race. Plenty of hydration.
Check out rule 25.19.2. Basically as it is only one class not 2 ie lights and heavies you can break the 100kg rule.
