maybe I have been watching too much Idol, big brother, x factor, but how about letting members voting for tyre choice (and maybe other things)?
I'm not saying free for all, but maybe when tyre tenders come up again, AKA can test, shortlist 2-3 types and the members racing in each class gets to vote!
Everything is recorded on computer now, so AKA know who is racing which class and only allow them to vote.
I'm sure there will be process changes and challenges, but this will allow members to have a voice and keep karting strong.

Ever seen a successful corporation run by democracy? It doesn't work, unfortunately. Democracy basically guarantees mediocrity, that's why you elect skilled people to make strategic decisions. Our old system of electing representatives, unfortunately, did not work. Finally we're transitioning to a system resembling government sanctioned best-practices, so we might finally see some insightful, strategic direction coming from the top.
Now's not the time to be regressing to groupthink, in my opinion.
Col, whilst I agree that there needs to be skilled leadership and authority within an organisation, modern practise aims at engaging its stakeholders and utilising the knowledge of those stakeholders. It is not an either or but a both.
I do however understand your point that we have a long way to go to be a high performance organisation.

Yes, successful corportation have skilled people to make decisions, because they have skin in it. They will lose out on their bonuses or get stacked if they don't perform.
Â
I hope our AKA leaders have enough skin in the game to make a difference.
If you let the end user have a say, then the GRUBS with their fingers in the till will be up in arms, couldn't have that happen, could we !!!
Hi David,
Â
Ironically the old system was SUPPOSED to do EAXACTLY THAT!!!!
Â
The AKA were SUPPOSED to call for tenders [ they did] they were supposed to test them [ they did] they were SUPPOSED to send the results to the CLUBS [ THEY DIDN'T] for their VOTE via the various SKCs. Guess what it failed. No surprises there
Heaven help the karters if THEY ever got asked what THEY wanted.
Your guess is as good as mine why the average karter didn't get a say, and Shane eludes to it quite well.
Â
As for the new board I DO HOPE they include karters in their decision making process next tyre tender time, this does NOT mean an actual BINDING VOTE by the karter, but at the very least a big attempt [ maybe direct coontact with karters va e-mail] to seek out what they want and let that form the base of their decision. The board will face the same pressures from vested interests to go a certain way but I do hope they live upto their mantra and see through this and act professionally.
Â
As I have stated before on the new era, its SUCCESS will entirely hinge on how well they seek out at ALL levels karters thoughts on where to go, IF they act in similar fashion to the current exec we will go downhill very quickly, if they get SKILLED people on the various sub committee and they ALSO seek out karters views honestly and without favour then we should get somewhere.

David - we were asked (for our class)
VKA asked clubs which tyres to use for Sportsman class this season - REDS was the answer that was voted in at delegates meeting back then.
In Jan (I think) VKA asked us to reconsider - we did and chose to remain on REDS
2 weeks prior to VKS series starting at Geelong - they changed the Supp Regs to make the class Tag on Dunlops (as is run in NSW, QLD etc)
Feb clubday ran as Sportsman with a 'vote' as such (!) on the grid after briefing - by then, Golden Power had gone to Tag, and Country series too - so it was pushed through as 'in everyones best interests' so we have 1 set of tyres for all series......
You might need to track it back and ask who decided to change the VKS series from Sportsman Reds to Tag Dunlops......start there mate......
and ask was NSW QLD clubs asked the same? seems they are using NSW QLD as the reason ask if their clubs were asked? there is big money here and democracy has no part in it
Hi Mr Plumb,
I started this post not to rant about our club (that was the other post!). This post is about us as AKA members having a say in national decisions.
Anyway, I'm sure you're in the same boat as me (and I guess most people in our class), by buying a new set of MG Red and only able to use it for 1 club day. At least you won the day, you can hang them up on the pool room wall and show your mates that these tyres were part of the victory!
Â
Well, I hope AKA will kill off sportmans and keep things sample.
As long as it is not a system resembling the current federal goverment practices but then you did say 'skilled 'Col Fink said:
