We have. The speed trap was obviously placed with the only objective of targeting karters attending the QLD State Titles. No other explanation will be entertained. Location, timing etc all adds up to singleing out a target group. Tougher than the bikie laws.
Having had to put up with the daily travelling to and from Stanthorpe on a so called "major highway", sign posted at 100K, littered with bone jarring pot holes, unsealed sections of bitumen, no shoulder, blind crests, roadkill and other hazards, it was great to find the only seemingly maintained bit of wide 2 lane road in Queensland. Happened to be in Warwick, on the road out of town to the kart track. Sign posted 60K of course just to keep it in pristine condition.
If this speed tarp wasn't planned as a money grab, find a better one. Thanks Warwick, After filling your hotels and establishments, pumping god knows how much into your comminity, you just couldn't help by squeezing the last little bit out of the karter.
To all the do gooders, yes we broke the law and will be paying the fine, begrudgingly. Let's hope the money collected can be spent fixing up the disgustingly dangerous roads that surround the area.
Interested to know, how many other karters made the contribution that weekend?
Damon's dad.
PS. Edgar warned us all in another thread.

Yep, bloody Sager's had me driving the van, so I've made my contribution to the Queensland coffers!
I do like to make you smile Pete :)
where was this so call road safety device......I only saw the one near the lights in town....
Near the BP servo for control fuel. About 50m before the speed limit increases. Parked 4 wheel drive. As I said, set up for karters. At 7 am on Sunday the only other vehicles using this road was trucks full of pigs (discharging huge amounts of excrement)Â and the odd horse and kart. Yeeha.
I'd be surprised if many didn't get caught by this blatant karter trap. Everyone we spoke to went "oops, think we got booked on the way here". Good luck William when checking your mailbox.William Yarwood said:

reminds me of phillip island & e/creek G.P.'s
jeez going even further back, the super bikes at oran. man did we ever get a hammering from the cops after those events.
somethings never change L.O.L
Â
Im hearing ya Dave, been going to the Philip Island for 20 years and cant remember a year that we haven’t been harassed, even got my photo taken while on the Barry sheen ride to the island (under police escort I might add), never found out if the boys in blue also got done  Â
I apologise in advance and I'm not judging anyone. Cripes - I've had a few.
Â
But.............
Â
"Disgustingly dangerous roads" don't cause drivers to speed it's the right foot, impatience, inattention and lack of concentration. For sure cameras are set-up in known "hot spots" - but simply in an ideal world, if we didn't speed, there wouldn't be hot spots. It's only a "money grab" if you contribute by doing the wrong thing.
Â
I've seen the results of road accidents/fatalities in my past work a thousand times over and up close as a Volunteer Fire Fighter too many times. A majority of these the result of speeding. I've seen the parents of a 17 year old kid screaming themselves stupid because their son put his car into a tree 200m from home in Mum's EB Falcon at an estimated speed of 125km/h in a 70km/h zone.. The engine was on his lap. It kicks you in the guts, makes you think and makes you sick. Physically.Â
Â
Education is the key and it should start young at high school with Classes on Driver Education and I'm a big fan of "scare tactics". I often say the Midget/Rookie and Junior drivers that have learnt to drive in karts will make better driver's on the road. They know their limits, they know the limits of the vehicle they are driving and they know where it should be done. Dave Boorman, Adelaide Kart Supplies, assists in a program with Kings Baptist School at Bolivar. My understanding it's a program the school has where they build a kart, learning the technical side of it and the driving side in a safe controlled environment. Awesome stuff.
Â
I won't teach my kids how to drive, it will all be done by a professional. Regardless of the cost. As most people know children pick up things quick from their parents no matter how old they are. I don't want my kids learning my bad habits. As it is I can't call an "Elderly Volvo Driver in a Bowlers Cap on a Sunday going to Church" driver a "Stupid Old Fart of a F***" when he cuts me off or sits at the lights, stop sign or giveway sign too long, without my 7 year old daughter laughing herself stupid, my 2 1/2 year old Son saying "Fart of a F***" and my Wife belting me.Â
Â
I'll take any chance to "preach, harp on" or whatever about Road Safety. Speeding and subsequent road fatalities/serious injuries can be easily, easily avoided.Â
Â
Take care on the roads. A lot of travelling is involved in Karting and no one wants to see a thread where you or your family or your Mates have died as the result of an accident. Your fault or not.
Â
PS I think this is one of the most sensible things I've ever written on Kartbook. Now to do what I do best - have a beer.
Sorry, can't let this one go without a comment.
I lived in Denmark (you know that tiny little country attached to Germany) for 3 years. It is a country two thirds the size of Tassie with 5 million people (very crowded, high traffic density), a lot of ice and snow in Winter, lots of rain at all other times of the year, and most roads are narrow two lane affairs with almost no run off. When I arrived there I was told that speed limits are considered advisory only and found this to be the case.
Â
And their deaths per 100,000 people is about 40% lower than ours (according to information published in The Age newspaper some months ago)
Â
I went back for 5 weeks last year for a visit and found nothing had changed, I was doing the speed limit generally but was being passed by people everywhere.
But I never got cut off, abused, people kept to the outer lane except when overtaking, etc, generally the driving standards and level of courtesy to other drivers where far higher than ours. The first time I drove after coming home I was cut off twice and abused.
Â
And why? Well that is probably something to do with the very strict driver training and testing regime they have.
Â
And one last point; there are very few speed cameras there.
Â
Argue about speed all you want but I have seen the proof that the fanatical speed compliance regime in this country is nothing to do with road safety.Craig Evans said:

Â
Exactly that. It's about education. We have F*** all education when it comes to driver training. Drivers, not all, are driving beyond their means here and getting themselves and others into all sorts of grief because of it. That's why I say again, the youngest Karters will make the best drivers. Their educated about control, risks and their abilities. Transfer that to the road and that equals safe drivers.
Â
If we were educated to drive at higher speeds safely at a young age and we had the Local/National Government to support that, I believe we wouldn't have the carnage we have.
Â
Without being racist, it doesn't help that you see people of ethnic background teaching others of the same ethnic origin how to drive. In my professional experience, when these "types" are involved in a collision, it's due to lack of understanding of the road rules and lack of understanding of the English language in reading and writing. Some go to the lengths of causing collisions to get a few pennies, putting other innocent drivers at risk. F*** those types!Â
Â
Speed Cameras don't save lives - that's the biggest load of shit I've ever heard. The Governments know if they set them up, there's driver's that will speed and "contribute to the coffers" - because some are ignorant. It comes down to the driver. No one, I say no one, makes a driver a speed or drive recklessly. It's a choice. An absolute stupid choice.
Its not uncommon for police to put on a speed ing blitz or drink driving blitz to co-incide with a towns major event[s]. I am sure the Warwick club didn't organise this.
Â
I have no problem with speed cameras other than their choice to place them, 50m inside the speed signs is NO place for them, nor at the bottom of hills. I was driving the stanthorpe-warwick-toowoomba road just this week. yes the road is bumpy but the level of traffic was light compared to the pacific highway so enjoyed the drive really. the ONLY radar I came across was just outside stanthorpe parked in the middle of the long flat straights, thankfully with my cruise control on [ as always] my picture wasn't taken, and also to the kind oncoming motorist who flashed his lights to warn me. Tis camera would only catch the stupid ones. And yes despite sitting on 100kph with cruise control on was passed regularly by cars doing 105-110kph and surprised at the number of young GIRLS doing the speeding.
Â
I think karting does help our kids in some cases but have seen some karters behind the wheel think the road is the track and pull "karting" moves when in traffic. EDUCATION is the key, keep on them about the dangers I for one have to live with a permanent disabiity for the rest of my life because of another persons error. A split second and my life changed and I did NOTHING wrong.
Â
NSW is known to have a % error margin in their cameras, not sure about QLD. I would hope there is as they may loose many cases in court if they can proove inaccuracy in equipment etc. I know the candy cars wont touch you until you are well over the limit to reduce any arguement of equipment accuracy. simple rule keep your cruise control on and watch your right foot.
