Ok so I am needing some advice, I am a newbie starting out in karting.
I am currently about 102kg, due to my current weight I was going to run clubman super heavy, however am just starting out and not 100% sure what I want. Me starting out now I want to race for a season or 2 just to make sure I like the sport and I understand it and enjoy it. after this period I would like to start looking into some more serious racing and start to travel around etc. I have the option to loose weight to race any class. What sort of class should I be watching as a goal to start working towards that offers serious racing? I have watched the gearbox kart racing on speed channel and that appealed to me. However I just don't know
Thanks :)

hi
you wont be able to race kz shifters any time soon, requires A grade license only get one of those after being top 3 at state or national level.Â
have you looked into Tag Restricted Heavy, you start on D grade license with p plates which means you have to start at the rear of the field for a few meetings. they run at 180kg minimum weight, the kart cannot weigh more than 100kg by itself, with you being 100kg and a rotax with kart weighing 80kg maybe less you'd be pretty close to the class weight.
you only have to search through kartbook about tag engines to see how popular and hassle free they are becoming, long times between rebuilds, not much tuning, reliable. they are higher initial purchase price, but you get that money back with less failures and rebuilds.
Yeah alright I can understand that, so basically it's a very rare chance to get into the shifter kart racing. What sort of racing does the tag offer? Are the tag engine the 125cc water cooled?
yes ben all the 125 classes are water cooled
and the racing is fast very competitivre and great performance
so jump in ben im sure you will love it
Yeah alright, I was going to say there is not alot of the 125 cc racing in Townsville, from what I have seen there is one kart that runs a 125 cc. But that will definatly be something I look to in the near future! Thanks for all your help guys!
Hi mal thanks for the response. Do you have an email address to discuss this without upsetting anyone?
