In coming back from a break (4 years) I now have to go through the whole P plate thing (again *unhappy face*)
In doing so I need to sit and flag for a race meeting. I accept this and will do so next month. However while I have my original licence I was also a tech inspector and scrutineer and so I feel in this situation I would be more help to a race meeting helpping to do that.
I also think that if I was to perform a task like this instead of sitting on a flag corner all weekend I would begin to appreciate more than before what a lot of the officials have to put up with (fights, angry karters, people trying to circumvent the rules etc)
they could do 2hr stints with scales marshal, engine measure, lap score, entries, could be anything.
Whats everyones thoughts?

Just fill out the previous experience form. Contact whoever does your license. They should have it. Should be able to back to your old rating.
Dave, not sure what the official position is, but in your case, I would hope that common sense would prevail. I believe thet wording is 'assist at a flag point', but I'm not sure for how long. Obviously it cannot be all day (unless you can tie it in a knot), so the requirement must be simply to assist for a 'given' period.
If you are at a switched on club, with good thinkers in charge, I would imagine that doing a quick drinks run round the various flag points would constitute 'assisting', especially if you carefully checked the flags while you're there.
Good luck and welcome back to Karting.

Dave's requirements are OLT or Flag Questionaire and then compete at three race meetings and officiate as a flag marshal under supervision
Again his skills should be utilised - but until he refreshes those skills by attending a school accreditation then that's not possible either ..a lot has changed in 4 years .... also take a gander at 13.17 and in particular 13.17.2 and 13.17.3.... but in any case the conditions for upgrade needed to have been met first !!
But hey thems' the rules and no one follows rules anymore, they just invent some to suit themselves, so dont be afraid to ignore ..!!!..

Sorry Ralph, engaged mouth (keyboard) before bringing brain online. As usual, you are correct sir and I apologise to all for suggesting anything that might cause anyone to ignore the rules, as we already have way too much of that.

Mitch ... if you leave your licence lapse for more than 3 years you start from scratch as a P plate driver and have to do all the details to upgrade from P again.....so a rule already exists that after NO MORE than 3 years you are eligible to return to your original status when you last held a licence ....see 13.05 ...but if you use the rules to your advantage you would apply for a single event licence for $37.50 go do some practice attend a race meeting and the 3 years commences from the single event licence date ....13.16(a)....
It so simple when you read the rules and just apply them ..... but then no one does that anymore...!!! read they might ,but to comply with them ..NO !!
Ok, I need to clarify
I'm *NOT* disagreeing about doing endorsements for the licence after the time out, rather doing something relivant for *NEW* people coming in to the sport. Any monkey can wave flags for a day but I dont think it really teaches you anything. Doing a job as an official for a day would be far better.
Please discuss & keep on topic
Hey Dave - I agree 100% .. what you are suggesting makes sense , but this is AKA and they don't do logic ..it has not changed since you last raced mate !!!
