I think it's time Australia cracked down on the starts of races, thing like no mans land and and the acceleration line.
Too often do we see crashes before the light has even gone green!
Am I being unreasonable here or should this be something that is addressed?

i agree adam
check how neat the European and international events are started, is there anything stopping the aka encouraging uniform starts, just for the sake of people facing the starter at least
Yeah it's called a too hard basket lol
I find when the officals try to crack down on starts they get critizised for slowing down the meeting showing red and white checker flags.
Cull a few classes and there is that problem solved.... lol but thats a different debate.
I think if you warn drivers and ping a few they will get the idea pretty quick.

The only problem with that is which classes to cull. At newcastle on a normal club day almost all the classes are combined. I mean apart from the senior classes (which at newcastle there are only 4 J, clubman, RTAG and rotax) there are no classes to get rid of.
If everyone knows not to accelerate before the line then there shouldn't be any problems with the starts anyway.
As Tyler said at Geelong you start racing half way around the final corner and that's where the problems begin.
Then there is the fact that most tracks have a no mans land and in my time racing karts I've never seen it enforced!!
Couldn't agree more Adam. Send a couple of guys from the front row back to 10th for accelerating too early, it wouldn't take long for the starts to settle down!!
It shouldn't be in the too hard basket, it should be in the "must do" basket!!
Great topic Adam, iv been thinking about this a fair bit this year with oakleighs changing start line. (on clubdays)
dont worry about bringing classes in and sending people to the back ect ect...
Starting procedure as follows...
Exit the grid and do one complete warm up lap.
Second time around down the main straight everyone forms up, take all cut throughs to get this lap done asap.
Pole man sets the roll up laps to 60kmph or just below, if he speeds, PENALTY
No one is to accelerate untill the light is green, NOT before, if you do PENALTY
Pole man is not allowed to accelerate untill he is on the acceleration line, when he dose the starter will green it.
The race starts on this second roll around every time, unless there is a major reason not to (track blocked ect...)
If you foul a plug (or crash) on the roll arounds. To bad, pull your kart aside and enjoy one of the better spectating spots in the facility.
If anyone ventures into no mans land before the start line, PENALTY
As well as the starter, it will be another official/stewards job to observe the full grid during the starts, to pick if anyone back in the pack has jumped (accelerated before the green light) PENALTY
Now for the penalty itself, threatening to send competitors to the back, or saying "next time it wont be tolerated" dosnt mean anything... everyone knows nothing will happen.
If you brake one of the start procedure rules the race continues on as normal, no announcements made, and no protest BS... just simply, when you look at the results sheet, the offender has 10seconds worth of penalty whacked onto his total time..
If people start thinking they finished 1, 2, 3 or anywhere, but come in to find they are actually classified 14th the message will get through pretty quick.
Thats what they do everywhere else in the world.. why dose australia think it knows better?
what we need to do is send someone from the aka in austraila over to the worlds or the euros and watch the way they start there race ?
at the worlds last year we would start accelerate about 5 - 10 meaters before the start finish line, there was still crashes. but they went green on the first roll around most times.
josh
Good call.
And if they're still having trouble realising the rules apply to them too then park them in the pits for a race or two.
I think once racers see a driver/s get put at the rear of field and out of contention for a night's points they may wake up.
It has to be fair though and applied to EVERY driver whether a National Champion or tail gunner.
Cheers
Gary
i think that considering most classes next year will be running with clutches we should bring in the good old standing start.. procedure would be;
roll out of grid one full lap to warm tyres, engines etc,
second lap leaders slow down to form the class up
as you come onto straight formed up you stop on your grid spot... starter waits for 1-5 seconds and can give the green at any stage.. you have an official on the straight to watch for any jump starts and if anyone fouls or cuts out they raise their hand to alert other drivers to go around them..
IMO i think that this will not only be the best and fairest way to start a race but also something fun and exciting for all karters.
But then you will get people spending too much money on cluth development etc...
That's what happened with JICA in Aus and that became the death of it.
No clutches for F100 still
