Hi,
It's me here, no offence.
Right where are we buying Avgas in Victoria?
Racefools are asking around $4 per ltr, the airports scoff at you with "only" a 20 ltr drum.
Answers from Vic please.......as I can't afford the "car" fuel to travel interstate or a lear jet.

Re: Avgas
Run by Phillip Island Helicopter Services.
Hassle free, 1 litre to 100.
I'm always happy to grab yours when I get mine Rolf, just give me a call ;)
Re: Avgas
Re: Avgas
Do you know how long 220 ltrs would last me?
Brendan:
Thanks, you're on.
Mike:
I was actually asking for a Stock Honda owner who is not on the forum (but I need it too)
Jeff:
What are you doing?
Re: Avgas
Ive been getting mine from Tooradin as well, around $1.80 a litre.
Will be heading down in the next week or so to fuel up if your interested, I can grab an extra Gerry for you
Peter and Craig will need some before Calder too.

Shit that is cheap, I buy 200L drums and it costs me $3.50 per litre........but it's delivered and refinery sealed. ;)
Re: Avgas
Tooradin it is for me

Re: Avgas
Like the ELF Sammy.
You guy's in Sydney get clipped.
Nathan, very good. ;D
Right sorted.
;D
Re: Avgas
And fine by me due to the "finish first, first you must finish tune."
;)
Re: Avgas
Re: Avgas
Ok, scored 20L of AVGAS and no complaints about the small amount. $2.67 a litre, so maybe I need to be friends with one of the PI Heli employess to get it cheaper.
That's it Nathan, send in "The Duck", I thought $1.80 was an absolute steal, Premium 98 at Woolies is over $1.50.
Anyway at 10 litres burn rate per race meeting in a Stock Honda, it ain't breaking anyone's budget at $1.80 or even $3.50 per litre. ;)
Re: Avgas
I'm tipping the low lead will be fine for a Stock Honda.
1.3mm head squish on a stock honda......may be cutting it close. :D
Re: Avgas
The last time I bought fuel was on the way down to the state titles, $1.83 ltr, and he even apologised because it had just gone up! It was much the same price at Lilydale while they were selling it.
I guess I'm going to have to allow for this price blowout in my Stock Honda racing budget for the year. ??? :D
As for the low lead thing, I'm happy not to be carrying anymore lead around while trying to race the midgets ;)
Re: Avgas
What you don't want to see is 100LL. This is 100 octane but Low Lead.
Re: Avgas
Don't worry about the colour. Different companies fuels are different colours.

Many grades of avgas are identified by two numbers associated with its Motor Octane Number (MON). The first number indicates the octane rating of the fuel tested to "aviation lean" standards, which is similar to the anti-knock index or "pump rating" given to automotive gasoline in the US. The second number indicates the octane rating of the fuel tested to the "aviation rich" standard, which tries to simulate a supercharged condition with a rich mixture, elevated temperatures, and a high manifold pressure. For example, 100/130 avgas has an octane rating of 100 at the lean settings usually used for cruising and 130 at the rich settings used for take-off and other full-power conditions.
Fuel dyes aid ground crew and pilots in identifying and distinguishing the fuel grades.
100LL
The most commonly used aviation fuel is 100LL, that is, "low lead". It is dyed blue and contains a relatively small amount of tetraethyllead—though the amount is greater than what was contained in many automotive grades of leaded fuel before such fuel was phased out. As of Jan 2010, 100LL has a TEL content of 1.2 to 2 grams TEL[9] per US gallon (0.3–0.5 g/l) and is the most commonly available and used aviation gasoline. One gram of TEL contains 600 milligrams of lead.
Many Continental and Lycoming light airplane engines designed for 80/87 remain in production. Engines designed for 80/87 can use 100LL with special precautions[vague] to prevent lead buildup and lead fouling of the spark plugs.[citation needed]
Some of the lower-powered (100–150 horsepower/75–110 kilowatts) aviation engines that were developed in the late 1990s are designed to run on unleaded fuel, but can run on 100LL if unleaded is not available, an example being the Rotax 912.
100/130 avgas, now commonly called Avgas 100, is dyed green. It contains a maximum of 4 g of lead per US gallon (1.1 g/l). 100LL has replaced 100/130 in most places, but Avgas 100/130 is still sold in some parts of the United States, Australia and New Zealand.

$3.50 per litre that is refinery sealed, thank you, I get the 100/130 delivered into my garage. No wasting $50 in car fuel or tolls to do a half day round trip. You simply can't get a controlled or sealed fuel cheaper than that.
No water or rust from Apu's service station, no pre-opened drums or tanker fuel, anything else that is so well controlled would be a completely sealed drum in 200L from fuel agents at around $8.00 per litre (you know agents normally seal their own 5 Gallon drums locally, imported empty then decant from 200L drums most of the time). Mind you, the fuel they pump into planes is going to be pretty tightly controlled if it's not from sealed drum anyway.
In any case, for Stock Honda it won't matter which Avgas you use, Premium 98 from servo is borderline pending your tune and the quality that Apu actually gave you plus the track in which your going to, hence why I recommend AVGAS for Stock Honda. It may require lowering the Stock Honda compression with the addition of a 0.2mm base gasket, and possibly backing off the timing, richer pilot and possibly main jet wouldn't go ashtray from the AVGAS jetting.
Re: Avgas
Re: Avgas
BP100LL = Blue
I think you right about Mobil being blue Cookie, that was when all AVGAS was to be changed blue.......then I heard from a Mobil guy that since they still use flame torches on some islands in the pacific, Some AVGAS went back to green so it wouldn't not the confused with Kero by the Island folk.
So legend says, if you get AVGAS anywhere in the pacific islands, it's going to be Green Only or drummed Avgas anyway.

So three bucks fifty a litre sealed by refinery and delivered for the Green Avgas, just a phone call and credit card away, whilst I sit on my big fat comfy chair watching Ellen and munch into another packet of Tim Tam's is starting to sound pretty smart ay. ;)

Re: Avgas

We get ours from the BP service station at Sandgate (45 Southerden Street Sandgate). You just need to take your race licence with you and if your going on the weekend to pick it up you need to do it Saturday before 12pm.
Cheers
