Lately I have noticed that there has been a lot of talk about the cost of karting. Mainly to do with which class cost the most and so on. I guess the only way to get a fair and true idea of the cost is for people to state there actual costs. You here of people saying that this tyre is better than that because you get more out of it. But honestly who doesn't run new tyres at any given open meeting. Then those that interested can make up there own minds from what has been stated.
We run one class Jnr Rotax,JMA, or Jnr max. take your pick we live in central vic and run most meetings in the south of the state. We have run both round to date of the Allstar series. and here are our cost to date per meeting.
Entry fee $90.
accomadation min $80 anight two nights $160.
Fuel for car only $150.
Food/Drinks. Most cases we bring our own from home but still have to buy that $80. But then again you still have to eat and drink if you stay home.
At this piont we still haven't put a kart on the track.
Kart.
Tyres $290. first round was wet so set of wets as well. so times two.
second round look like very much like rain. First round Dunlop wets second round Mojo wets so new set required. Times 2
oil $35
Plugs $25
kart fuel $30.
Chain $55 ?
So an average Rnd based on only 1 set of tyres. no damage. crash or general wear and tear. Cost around $900. this is the cost of running the meeting itself.

Hi Ben,
You know what, maybe (especially given that I paid out on Kart Magazine's effort so hard) we KartBooker's should have a fair crack at doing this and calculating the AVERAGE spend per class - we certainly have enough members to have a reasonable shot at it.
I think we could have a spreadsheet that each person downloads, fills in at a race meeting (say, a round of the Allstars, or PSC, or the QLD State Titles), then they send them back to me and I average it out for each class at each race meeting.
Waddaya reckon, are there a few people here who would like to do it?
yep
I forgot to add our where and tear bill
brake rotor $160
baffell and padding $50
and new Battery $105 CHEAP.
Plus Matties Burbon bill $ hole s#@t
Great Stuff
Now we are getting somewhere - Let me know if I can help in any way!
Dont forget though to have "Club Racer "category as those probably represent 80% if karters and are the backbone of most small clubs that keep our tracks available for us
And is also the information someone starting out is looking for as opposed to those that know the game and are chasing titles / rounds etc
How's it going Ben - you guys going to Newcastle - Pro Tour?
Ernie
Interesting thread. You can make it as expensive or cheap as you want. At club level, people will use a set of tires for 3-5 meetings depending on the size of their wallet. Where at major meets, everyone starts on fresh rubber. I think you need to define two categories being: Club Racer & Other
Col, the spreadsheet idea sounds good. I did a bit of math when deciding on what class to run originally, but it would be great to do a direct comparison between the different classes......one of the biggest debates is clubby vs TAG.
Okay, so I think we're going to get enough participants to make this work. I'll have a think about how to set up the spreadsheet and probably put something up for people to download in the next couple of days. KEEP THE IDEAS COMING! This could be quite a powerful idea I think.
cool idea, im keen to be involved.
