Hi All,
The 2010 Australian Championship for CIK classes as you will have read elsewhere are moving along very nicely. Entries are looking good and are growing steadily. Round 1 is ready to go and you will see some very exciting announcements in the next three weeks.
I placed a posting on the 24th of December in response to the discussion re prize money and would just like to clarify a few things.
The IKC obtained sponsorship from Defence Industries and handed out prize money at the final round of the 2009 Championship.
The IKC then approached the NKC with a budget to promote the 2010 series. The decision was made that we need to promote karting to the broader community (not just to those that are already in the sport) and the chosen category was CIK. If this is strong and marketable then the AKA has the tool to take the sport to the broader community. Should it have been Rotax, should it have been Leopard? All good questions for a debate later.
This budget was split up into many sections.

We also had Sponsorship income listed at $20000. I understand everyone has an opinion on the benefits of spending this money on a
few and how better it could have been spent but if the sport is to be marketed then we need a strong vibrant tool that can be promoted. This is what we plan to deliver. How do you put a deliverable on it? Should it be 30 in each class, should it be 100 all up? All good points. I would like to see 18 to 20 KF1, 10 to 15 KF3 and 20 to 25 KZ2. This to me would then provide a spectacle.

"We have a $20,000.00 prize pool for KF1
We have a $10,000.00 prize pool for KF3
We have a $10,000.00 prize pool for KZ2
Thats what we have !! Thats not the discussion.
The discussion "IS" what is the best way to distribute that to the drivers..... Now I had planned on asking the drivers to decide but I thought why not get all the guys and girls on Kartbook to give me their ideas... So go for it !!!"
The intent of this was to say hey we have got an allocated prize pool of $x and how would you the competitor like to see it distributed. To many times the karters say they are never involved in decisions yet when the question is asked (thank you to those that came back with sensible feedback) it is turned around in an unbelievable way.
The facts are:
1) In 2009 we had allocated $20000 as a prize fund for the winner of KF2. This has been allocated as an overseas drive and several options have been put to the winner. Hopefully a decision will be made shortly and he will race overseas in 2010.
2) The NKC approved a prize pool for KF1 of $20000, KF3 of $10000 and KZ2 of $10000. This was approved as a part of the presentation to the NKC. None of this is new as it was in my post on the 24th of Dec. The IKC then sought the opinion of how we should award this prize pool. My feelings have always been an overseas drive, but it is a democracy so we sought other opinions. This is when it turned pear shaped - enough said.
We will be announcing the prizes for the series by mid Feb and you can expect to see some great drives on offer as prizes. Many people have stated that they are uneasy with AKA money being used for cash prizes so if we do decide to hand out any cash prizes this can be sourced from sponsorship as per round 4 2009. This was a decision from the IKC at a recent telephone hookup.
How good would it be to see the winner of KF1 race in Europe, the winner of KF3 race in Japan and the winner of KZ2 race in the USofA at that big event in November. None of this is confirmed yet but we as much as you want to see it happen.
At the end of the day we all have a passion for the sport and want to see it progress. You may or may not agree with the direction we are heading but give it a chance. When the series is in your area come along and have a look. You will be surprised.

PS on the bottom of my 24th Dec post I put my name and number if anyone wanted to ring me and find out anything more about the series. The offer is still on the table.

Peter, It is a bit like the rule book. You read it one way I read it another. Anyhow hope you do get to Ipswich when we are in town.
CD
I wonder how they will collate the succes of the event in regards to getting the sport "out there" to the general public?? can we point to a 10% growth in licence figures? what if there is no eveidence of any growth? lot of pressure on a handful of rounds in the big city.
Bit like BAM trying to justify the same?
I am sure the event will run successfully and the prizes will be top shelf, but again a LOT of money spent on less than 1% of karters for a imeasurable benefit.
I hope the 2011 event will be SELF SUFFICIENT!!
And Craig I read the post the same way as Peter, he asked a simple question that went unanswered for too long and then you got what you got.
I am sure the IKC have learnt a thing or two when making announcements.
If you had asked the question Craig? and written the above post immediately after asking it it would have been MUCH MUCH more clearer and much less agro on a public forum that didn't really cover the event nore the AKA in a good light.
still best of luck with the event and lets hope it all goes well and we get something out of it.
It was said >>>>> We also had Sponsorship income listed at $20000. I understand everyone has an opinion on the benefits of spending this money on a few and how better it could have been spent but if the sport is to be marketed then we need a strong vibrant tool that can be promoted
And who is the expert marketing company that has been engaged >> surely its not BAM - they are not marketing experts and licence numbers have not improved after $750,000 dollars of Media advertising .. if it has then show us the figures Craig...
Anyone can make pie in the sky !!
Why Peter , you asked a question and if someone does not like it then they can go a jump in a deep hole and try and climb out of it with and AKA , Because untill people who care about the sport of Karting and the Karter get in power this sport will be dead
Peter Edgar said:My first censorship ... Sorry Col .. Some say that was my best peice ever .. Might be a good idea if I stay off this thread !!!
