Late last year I put up a video on YouTube of my Stock Honda racing at Mallala and so far there have been 154 views. :)
It is small compared to some of the other Australian drivers like Dean McGinty who have an average of 500 views on each of his club day videos or Sam Zavaglia who has 1000’s on many of his TZ250 videos and one in particular has hit 20,000 views. :D
And there are other Australian drivers who have posted but too few compared to those who have cameras on-board and not many of these are current or have a reference on them to point to a Club contact or link. :-[
Would it surprise to know that one video from the PVP driver Henrik Lilja running in the European Championship has had nearly 900,000 views and this is only one of his many videos. Ref: Superkart - CIK-FIA European Championship Assen 2012 - Race 2 . :o
There is no doubt that video with data overlays speaks volumes when watched by people who have no idea how fast a Superkart is. Henrik Lilja and Sam Moss have both overlayed their data on their videos and it has been an eye opener for many to see that how fast and exciting our sport is. Many of my work colleagues had no idea that a Stock Honda will do 175kph and look utterly bewilder to hear that a Division 1 Superkart can do 240kph. When I send them the link to Henrik’s video, they come back with comments like “that looks amazing!” 8)
Superkarting is generally struggling in Australia for members and I am sure we all want to help grow our sport; so please why not post your videos and see if we can’t turn around the decline? Please add a link of your local Superkart club’s contact page on your video too so that your good work is successful. ;)
Together we can grow our passion ;D

Re: YouTube - a great way to promote our sport for free?
your statement of "Superkarting is generally struggling in Australia for members" might be happening in your backyard but not ours. I do agree that youtube is a good marketing tool to use. Gives away a lot of secrets however.
Re: YouTube - a great way to promote our sport for free?
That is good the hear that your club is going well.
Our club is suffering for Gearbox membership and we would also like more member overall.
When I look at the Natsoft results of the club meetings, there are not that many entrants in any club compared to what there has been previously, so my question would be to you; can you do with some more ???
Secrets? I have plenty, I can let you have some if you give yours away :D
Dalton might even give you one of his ;D

Allan.

Re: YouTube - a great way to promote our sport for free?
Yes, that would sum up most of us - loonies with very fast toys :D
Please don't talk to my wife about this; she still thinks I am participating in a safe sport ;)
It is intersting when you see where all these loonies come from and still have the same passion for Superkarts.

Allan.
Re: YouTube - a great way to promote our sport for free?
Youtube is just one tool we can use to market our sport. But watching it on video is one thing but driving them is what really gets people hooked.
To grow the sport at grass roots level (which is where we need it most) you need to get people in the seat and having a go, You can bet that after even a few laps that if they're not grinning from ear to ear then you might need to check them for a pulse.
The other aspect that can be improved on even at grass roots level is professionalism of the teams and clubs. The more professional the club and driver's appear then the easier it will be too convince people to join as they don't see it as just a bunch of mates racing Sunday. We're competing will many other classes of motorsport so we have to give them incentive to want to join ours.
Re: YouTube - a great way to promote our sport for free?
I think the biggest difference we have between the real loonies and us is, we know that speed is addictive, we accept that and welcome it with open arms. :D

Allan.

Re: YouTube - a great way to promote our sport for free?
I can see you having problems with that helmet at smp or pi,...the turbulence that comes over the Nassua panel and then eddies behind it and the shape of the helmet don't make for good aero, Dalton has three helmets, the most expensive of the three and the lightest and safest doesn't like to go over 190kph,...your helmet looks good but it's not suited to the angle it is at at that speed,..just an observation,...to me you spent alot of time playing with the helmet instead of focusing on the driving. ;)
Yes, you're right, that's because it's a dual sport dirt bike helmet with the peek taken off.
Re: YouTube - a great way to promote our sport for free?
No secrets to give away in our sport. We can all go buy the same equipment as the front running guy, just depends whether you can pedal it as fast as they can ;)
I think YouTube is a great way to show off our sport. It certainly helps when the clips get picked up by Media Outlets, hence why Henrik's has a lot of views :)
I noticed a few guys saying the more professional we are the more it attracts people. True having nice colourful karts does catch the eye, but when they come round to talk to you in the paddock after the race the last thing they probably want to see is engines in pieces, pistons with chunks missing out of them etc. Reliability keeps people in the sport, and attracts new comers just as much as having a good image does.
Pushing Stock Honda and Rotax would be good for you guys down under as a nice easy platform to get into superkart racing. Fill up the tank, electric start and off you go is the best way to market it.
Re: YouTube - a great way to promote our sport for free?
Well said and thank you for all your Videos on Youtube. When I am sitting in the office doing the same old stuff, day in day out, I pull one of your Videos up and escape for a while. It has save my sanity a few times. :D
That is a good idea about the Media Outlets; if we let the Media Outlets know of a resource for our sport, we have more chance for them to pickup that resource. :)
How did your testing go recently ???

Allan.
Re: YouTube - a great way to promote our sport for free?
I have seen both types in this sport and some did leave because they did not the mechanical skills needed to enjoy the sport fully. But others like you said Owen had been blessed by the Speed God and did not want to kick the habit even when it appeared they had offered up enough motor parts to the same God for another blessing. :(
There is no doubt that being on the top of your game brings out your best performance and it should be where we all aim to sit. :)
For those guys, who are having any problems with their National kart and they do not know how to fix them; please ask the question now before we get to the first race as it is not good for the you, or the class to have problems on the day. ???
There is no need for anyone to have a bad experience in the National class as there is enough experience on this forum for someone to have the answer to your situation. Sometimes, someone will just drop the clue you need to move into the circle of the grinners. :D

Allan.

Under weight for the class??? never weighed in! No lead visible on this 1980's Anderson kart replica. Lead is on the kart at race meets where there are scales. No scales and no lead on this day. Exhaust smells different to the other karts and yes, there was no fuel testing. Clubs need to lift their game so others may take this sport seriously and join. Weigh them, check the engines for compliance, test the fuel, etc. and get rid of the cheats.?"

Re: YouTube - a great way to promote our sport for free?
Until you brought up the incident on this topic, I had never heard of or thought that you did anything that was illegal in your racing. And I am sure most of your fellow Superkarters did not think that either. :)
Dalton has won two National Class Australian Championship on his own merit with weight checks and no protests so the point is beyond an argument. 8)
The matter is really between you and Mr Truth.
Personally, I really don’t care what people say about me if I know that I have done nothing wrong – that is their problem and usually a sign that they are envious. :)

Re: YouTube - a great way to promote our sport for free?
As Owen has mentioned, this is a public forum, everyone has equal rights on here and no one will dictate what can/can't be said. In saying that, I'm always available to be contacted via email or PM on here to follow up any complaints/suggestions or remove comments/threads if needed to keep this place clean and factual.
Thankyou and good luck to everyone competing in 2015.

Talking about race numbers, I am told that CAMS is going to clamp down on them. Approved fonts are 'Helvetica Bold' 'Zurich Bold' and 'Ariel Bold' see link

Re: YouTube - a great way to promote our sport for free?
Just in case some of you do not know, Microsoft has a free "Movie Maker" program which can edit, add Titles, Captions, Music … etc and generally help to increase the interest or message on your video.
It is also good to add your local club website or Facebook page to the video so viewers can contact the club if they are interested in getting into the sport. :)
I also added a credit to my family at the end of my video and shows them my appreciation for the help they give me. :-*
Another program worthy of note is "TrackVision" for anyone who has not seen it before. It allows you to select and add your data to your video for a really professional look. Link: https://www.trackvision.net/
Regards
Allan
Re: YouTube - a great way to promote our sport for free?
The videos display some close racing and with the data, you get the feeling of the speed increase from the slipstream very well. :)
It would be good if you could add a reference to your club at the end for any viewer that wants to take their passion further and actually join you guys on the track.
Microsoft's free Movie Maker allows you to do this very easily - if you need a hand, drop me an email and I can help you with it. :)
You guys are doing a great job of promoting Superkarting - together we can build the sport for a brighter future :D

Allan.

Re: YouTube - a great way to promote our sport for free?
Anyone that knows anything can see the camera kart is struggling with under steer, what's that got to do with his driving skills? That's right nothing.
All I said was that Dalton the fast guy who also passes a twin around the outside at 9 is fast and that's how it should be done.
If you stopped trying to read into everything you might feel a whole lot better.
Arhhhhhhhh
Re: YouTube - a great way to promote our sport for free?
In fact fuck you Allen, explain yourself.
Re: YouTube - a great way to promote our sport for free?
Paul Campbell has posted many Videos on YouTube and by doing this has made a positive contribution to promoting Australian Superkarting like some others have too. Why would you want to degrade this contribution by taking a cheap shot at him ???
For those other members that do not know that the current competitive 125cc Gearbox Superkart has between 45-50Hp and Paul generally runs with this pack. His results in the previous Australian Superkart Championship are there for all to see.
Re: YouTube - a great way to promote our sport for free?
I acknowledged in the above post that Pauls kart has push in the damp and yes he is usually faster.
I fail to see why I need to point this out to you as my initial post has nothing to do with Paul it points out Daltons skill.
You need to read the post and stop making a dick of yourself. The only negative things that have been posted are by yourself.
I'll be happy with an apology any time Allen if you care to get down from your high self righteous high horse.
Jason.
Re: YouTube - a great way to promote our sport for free?
Jason, that is low act to knock a fellow Superkarter about his driving on an open forum.
It is really not doing our sport any good, :'(

Allan,
Maybe you need to review what you have said. I see this same person posting stuff on Youtube (no login required) with stuff defaming others who race better and fairer than he EVER will. Referring to others as being cheats with statements such as "Stock honda my arse" makes you look quite silly with your statements now doesn't it Allan.
Personally all the lessons that Dalton and I gave him around the tracks clearly hasn't helped him tame his mega wild +50HP JHA RS125 monster by the way he still drives.

Re: YouTube - a great way to promote our sport for free?
My main interest here is for the sport of Superkarting. I am acknowledging the value of Superkart videos on YouTube and how they can be used to promote Superkarting in general.
If Jason was really encouraging members to view Paul’s video for a positive lesson in how to drive Eastern Creek, why reference the point where Dalton overtakes him and then refer to the HP of a Stock Honda; why not reference Dalton’s previous video of SMP where you and Dalton are dicing. It is a much better video for different race craft.
I do not know Paul personally nor do I personally support anyone who wants to degrade another Superkarter on this forum, but I do try and find the positive in their contributions to the sport and acknowledge those here.
Sam, you have done a lot of good for the sport and many people thank you for that including me. If you feel you have been wronged by Paul or others, can’t you just take one for the good of the sport without making it public on this forum?
Jason, if I have misunderstood your real intent and it is truly honourable, then I do apologise.

It pisses me off that I feel the need to justify that to you as it's not the first time you have misinterpreted a post and jumped on that high horse.
