Well, Jason came off going over lukey Heights and hit the tyre wall at a fairly high speed, then the medical cars came onto the circuit and stopped at the outside of the track over lukey heights. According to all the drivers there was no red or yellow flags shown thoughout the track except directly opposite where the cars were parked. Karts going overthere at around 200kph and suddenly seeing a couple of car stopped on the track cant be safe. Anyway lucky no one else was injured besides Jason who I hope gets better soon.
The only reason I posted that link was to clear up what actually happened as what was posted inferred that some of the kart drivers caused the problem. If someone can actually clarify what happened I will point them to the post as a correction (if needed). Stories like this can grow and give us a bad name with officials. That is the way I see anyway.
Just added this video of Steve castles on you tube, It shows the cars on the track as well as one of the 250 national drivers flying off the outside of the track when he saw the cars. The picture quality isn't the best because there was mud flicked up onto the camera earlier on in the race.
**NOTE - this is actually Ilya...accidentally used my brother's auto log-in !!...stupid firefox..**
That video on Steve's kart demonstrates pretty much what happened.
I can't comment exactly on what happened because I was just in front of Colin when he went off, and by the time I came around again the red flags were out, so I was going slow anyway.
But the absolute consensus among the drivers on the day was that we did not have adequate warning as to the situation awaiting us over the crest of Lukey. The medic cars were parked over the crest, out of site and on the racing line. Couple that with the new rules of yellow flags, and the fact that that particular flag point is also out of sight for us webmasterers, then the chaos speaks for itself.
The officials (flaggies) were actually doing what the rules say, but it is a clear example of how one rule doesn't fit all categories. Having double waved yellows on the flagpoint before, coupled with a white flag MAY have prevented this mess. As soon as the medic cars are out on the track, there should be a red flag. This would have also totally avoided this incident. I did half a lap from the time he went off to the time the red flags were deployed.
I agree. I dont understnd how, or why any vehicle (besides a webmaster) would have been out on the track without there being a full course yellow, or red flag....I also dont understand the new ruling for yellow flags only being waved at the 'point' of the accident?? To me it doesn't make sense...
I think the idea is to allow the racing to continue on the rest of the circuit while the accident is being dealt with. I think the yellow should be displayed at the flag point prior to the accident zone as well, this way it would give the drivers just that little bit more warning.
Thats pretty muich what I was getting at, whats the point of showing the yellow at the point of the accident, it would be better to show it one flag point before & ofcourse at the accident.
