recently moved into seniors from juniors racing clubman. was wondering why we dont have a class system kind of like TAG i.e. restricted. has someone ever though about something like clubman light for newbies i.e people that have raced in clubman in general for a year or less (and I am including junior clubman.) i think it would give people going to clubman a chance to get some experience against people at their own ability) not racing guys with australian championships and state championships at clubdays!
why dont we have something like this? and if we did how many people would be interested in this?
I am aware that this could turn into a debate about clubman and j's and how no one races them but please try keep to the topic above

Newbes will learn much much more racing against experienced drivers than running around with drivers of limited experience. As long as they are helped out a little off the track.
Unless you are from a larger club, the more people on the track at once the better so splitting clubman would not be the way to go and also the larger the class, the more likely that you will end up racing someone around you pace no matter which end of the field you are at.
It's all down to numbers. In many places they struggle to get a Clubman field together. Some years ago - before Rotax turned up - when I raced in Canberra thay had a Clubman "Sportsman" class. It was was newbies or less competitive drivers.
After two wins you were asked to move into one of the main Clubman classes. It worked well but only because there were full grids of Clubmans in most classes.Â

The people of the same ability will still be racing against each other on the track as their pace will naturally have them around each other. Â

In the late 90's I remember that Oakleigh did have Clubman A and Clubman B. B was for the new karter and the thoes that did not have the pace.
As Mike has suggested it will all depend on numbers. There are already far to many classes at race meeting. I dont belive that we need any more.
If you just want to be racing for trophies go to an ordanary Open meeting, there are very few state or national champions that race these meetings these days.
Yamaha TAG 100= introduction to karting class.when you want to move to clubman you can bolt on MG reds and blueprint the engine if you want and away you go. Well that was the intention of TAG 1000 anyway.
