Going down for the first time to Morwell next week end for the C& D Titles. I just had a look at the website for gearing and i really cant understand what they mean by for JNH which shows 5.7:1 Wondering whether anyone can tell me how i read this?
If anyone has raced down there and know what front and rear sprocket you you need for JNH i would appreciate it.

Hi Joe (please update your profile with your FULL NAME!),
5.7:1 is the gear ratio. You can calculate it by dividing your rear sprocket teeth by your front sprocket teeth.
IE, a 70 tooth rear sprocket with a 10 tooth front would be 7:1.
Sorry about the profile Col. Not intentional !
Ok so down in Morwell i am getting conflicting info from all over the place. This is the boys first open meeting, so i really dont want to make silly mistakes by not having the right stuff on board. At the moment for Oakleigh we run 12/76 - 77
I fany anyone can help with whether i need to change the front to a 11/69 - does that sound about right for JNH??

Thanks Justin,
I was told to run 11/69. Karting seemed to be so much easier back in the "80's when i was running.... DOH showing my age now. So the difference between running 11/69 v 11/78 would be speed out the corners??
justin sarton said:my brother won c&d grades last year and club championship at morweel in jnh and we ran 11 78 it reved close to 11000 rpm but at morwell you need to gear the kart to come off the turns as the straights are not all that long and can geet away with higher gearing if you have any other questions about morwell just ask
Thanks Justin - I will give it a go. We have a day for some testing so we can up with the best result (hopefully)
Might try a few things different at Oakleigh as well. We have been running 12/76 although it was the first time out in JNH the other day. Previously we were running JNL and decided to leave the rear sprocket the same. Maybe not the right move
Thanks Again..
justin sarton said:yes it will come off the turn better at oakleigh we would run an 11 72 the gearing and time charts posted on the web the last time i looked were very wrong times you would be looking for would be on a good day would be mid to low 34 and on a real good day high 33s good luck
i went down last year and going down this year in jnh and jnp, but last year we used a 11/80 and it worked fine, i think if you find gearing close to that it will work
liam brooks
Thanks Liam,
It seems to be the way to go. i have them all on board so hopefully we can get some decent testing in on Friday and work our way through this maze.

I have run 12-82@140 kg and 12-84@150kg and normally pretty quick down there
Hi Joe, I just had a look at Gippslands gearing table on the VKA website and the times and gearing shown are still the gearing and times for Puckapunyal. These times have been the same for about 4-5 years. Even Pucka's table has been updated to current times, but Gippsland seem happy posting another tracks chart, which makes it very difficult for first timers to go there prepared with the correct gearing. The info that has been posted in this blog would be what I would go on.
11/78-11/80. Cheers
Hi Kevin,
Thanks for your info as well. As said previously it is the boys first open meeting and i guess we just want a good couple of days with the right gear. Really appreciate everyones help.
Thanks All
Joe
